Our Montana has the black and grey waste water gate valves that are operated by a long cable on the opposite side of the trailer from the gate valves. This is a terrible system IMHO. They have always been quite stiff to operate but recently using “all” my strength I still couldn’t get the black water gate valve to close all the way. Nice! Then I remembered about a tip I read along time ago on another RV forum. It said to add baby oil to the tanks when empty then add enough water so that the valves could be rinsed with the mixture as you quickly opened and closed the valves. It just so happened that we had a very small bottle of baby oil. I couldn’t remember what the ratio to water was so I had Dianne dump the whole thing down the toilet…maybe 1/2 a cup and I added what I estimated to be about 2 gallons of water. Voila…it worked!!

that’s a good tip, How long did you leave the water and baby oil sit in your tank? Mine aren’t stiff now but I’m sure in the future they may stick.

Hi Dan. I worked the valve back and forth immediately and life was good again!
