Before you get all excited, there may be a drawback to the system. The sewage doesn’t exit the RV as rapidly as a normal gravity dump, so all the solids may not make it out of the black tank. I also saw a video on YouTube that leads me to believe that when the tank drains more slowly, you end up with more TP residue stuck to the tank walls, fouling the tank sensors. Let me try a few more empties before I give it two thumbs up or down.

Sorry Norma, that shirt pattern is discontinued. I checked the manufacturers website. :-(

    Roger,

Nancy and I had our camper stationary for 3 1/2 months and used our Thetford Smartote to partially empty our tanks twice in that time. (used the camper for weekends only)  By the time we brought her home there was a thick layer of solid matter on the bottom of the tank. We were able to loosen it somewhat with our built in flusher and a garden hose through the toilet.  Still it didn’t get really clean until we drove her over 500 miles on vacation and then dumped again.  Hopefully you have good pressure on your water hose to help with that problem in your trailer.

That system you purchased seems like a real winner for what you need to do! We agree that a 45 would work better for the drain!   Good luck!

My sensors have been fouled since last summer, the place we were at before would fill the water tank, but we had no pressurized water. I was going to do the ice trick, but they had already emptied the tanks.
My transfer pump for the bulk water tank does a great volume, but at low pressure. I built myself a large diameter cleaning wand at work, hopefully volume will do the job of pressure.
We are going to try and clean the black this weekend, and finally wash the exterior. I did find a 45, but it’s not clear. It’s going to be plumbers nightmare! :-)

I’m happy to report the large diameter wand did a lovely job of breaking the sludge loose and clearing the slide valve. I have a Camco tank rinsing wand that did a very nice job of finishing up, my sensors are working again!
A few strange things came out, Beetles. About an inch long, red markings on the wing covers??? The Tank Buddy ate them. I’m thinking that maybe some kind of insect screen is needed in the vent pipe, but, I’ve never heard of anyone else having beetles in their black tank.

Had enough water left over to wash the trailer, first time since we bought it. Looks MUCH better!
