Well, Came over 1300 miles since Saturday. Stayed 2 nights in Walmart parking lots – so far nothing but good things. Arrived at Fla-Net Park Campgrounds in Flanders, New Jersey yesterday afternoon and spent the evening visiting with some of my wife’s family. Working this week, then on Saturday plan to head north to my home state of Maine to spend…[Read more]

Didn’t have the finances to get Eddie to upgrade my systems – maybe next year – but now that we’ve moved south from Montana to an area with more direct sun I’m getting much better performance from my panels. Over 12 amps charge rate at noon on a sunny day. I think the major issue is that I cannot angle the panels so in the northcountry getting…[Read more]

So I finally got my inverter installed and working. Ran two circuits off it one down each side for a total of four outlets. Inverter is now powering tv and Satellite receiver and the desktop PC/Monitors I need for work. Included a general purpose outlet in the kitchen area for incidental power needs. Haven’t tested it yet while boondocking but I’m…[Read more]

One more week in Nebraska then heading to the east coast. Be back in Maine by the 10th for a long stay

Bought some wheel-to-wheel steps for my truck online and had them delivered to a UPS Store nearby. Was going to put them on this weekend but when I opened up the box I realized that they are for a dually. Can’t even send them back because they want $200 for shipping. We’re only going to be here for two more weeks and can’t bring these with us.…[Read more]
I love how even though we’ve come over 1300 miles in the past week, we’re still at home ![]()
On the way south from Sioux Falls on I-29 today saw 2 big rigs overturned within a few miles of each other. it was pretty windy but glad we didn’t catch those crosswinds!

We were parked right there. After dark we had some beverages and waited for the full moon to break over the horizon. About ten we were setting there and staring at the Tower when here comes the moon shining on the tower. After a few minutes a gigantic light comes on the face of the Tower. Close Encounter of the Third Kind was happening. It was the…[Read more]
Stayed at our first Walmart last night in Sioux Falls, SD. Busy road right next to us and HOT but overall not too bad. Only a short 3 hour drive to our destination south of Omaha. No boondocking there with temps in the 90’s but the only campground we could find that isn’t full has no sewer hookups. Oh well, just have to hook up every few days to…[Read more]
So excited to be hitting the road finally this weekend! Our youngest has his last day of school today (Really his LAST day since we plan to home school from now on) and we leave Saturday morning starting our grand journey. Plan to travel first to Nebraska where our daughter lives then to the east coast, and spend the summer and fall in Maine. Then…[Read more]
Only 10 days until we start our trek east! In Montana now but plan on being in Maine by mid July. Will only be able to travel on weekends so I can work remotely during the week.
So, after a month of RV living in our driveway we finally moved out and spent our first night in an RV park. Got a very nice spot at Rocky Mountain Hi Campground and RV Park between Kalispell and Columbia Falls Montana. Got a spot all the way in the back with a neighbor only on one side and a view of the mountains. Had a few issues hooking up -…[Read more]

On the swaying issue, I’ve got a lightweight 5ver and the bounce was driving me nuts. I work on my computer at the tail end of the rig so everything is magnified back there. I bought the SteadyFast stabilizer system and can’t say enough good about it. Probably took 90% of the shaking out (nothing I can do about the springiness of the floor).…[Read more]

I had steady fast on our previous Montana high country it worked very well would recommend it. As Ben & Deb said took about 90% of bounce out. Our new Montana has 6piont level up system so don’t need steady fast.

I solved much of the sway issue by adding more leveling blocks under the front landing gear to reduce the height of the gear. Ordered a set of X-Chock Wheel Stabilizers also.
figured out my converter fan issue: Apparently it SHOULD be turning off when the batteries are fully charged. At my original location I had pulled the breakaway safety to…[Read more]

Thanks John. I have and use both 2X8 blocks and Lynx Levelers. Using a 4ft level we are spot on in both directions.
I plan on having Eddie troubleshoot and upgrade my solar system. Panels are spotless and ZERO shade from about 11:00 AM to sunset.
CaptnRob replied to the topic Dealership solar install issues in the forum Solar Power 2 months, 1 week ago
I think I found the issue with my batteries depleting so fast. When I parked my rig initially it was on a slight hill so I thought that pulling the breakaway switch to engage the brakes would add a bit of security in addition to the wheel chocks. Totally forgot about that until this weekend when I hooked up to move to a new campground. With that…[Read more]

Thanks
Only cost $180 to PERMANENTLY register my 37ft 5th wheel? Montana is pretty awesome. Keeping my residency here as long as possible!
CaptnRob replied to the topic RV Roof rack in the forum Mods and Upgrades 2 months, 3 weeks ago
The panels are at the front. Plenty of roof space on a 37 footer
CaptnRob replied to the topic RV Roof rack in the forum Mods and Upgrades 2 months, 3 weeks ago
I prefer to keep the truck clear. That setup would drive me bonkers with the limited visibility.
CaptnRob replied to the topic RV Roof rack in the forum Mods and Upgrades 2 months, 3 weeks ago
One of them is a 14 ft tandem. Carrying on the truck is NOT an option.
But neither is installing through bolts in my roof! I’ve seen 5th wheels with roof racks there must be a way to install them.

Wow! That’s really moving!
