I need to install a roof rack or tie downs on the roof of my Grand Design 5th wheel so I can carry 2 kayaks up there. How do I locate the roof struts to drill/screw into? What kind of screws should I use? A single large lag bolt or several smaller screws?

Oh dear! How heavy are they?

I carry mine on my truck which makes it easier to get out there. (See any of my truck pics)

But….  The previous owner if my 5ver had 4 long eye bolts installed,  for who knows what, at the rear that go clear through the roof with washers and nuts, sealed with sealant.

One of them is a 14 ft tandem. Carrying on the truck is NOT an option.

But neither is installing through bolts in my roof! I’ve seen 5th wheels with roof racks there must be a way to install them.

I hear you! My boat is 13’1″.

Ever seen this kind of setup?

    I wish you luck.

I prefer to keep the truck clear. That setup would drive me bonkers with the limited visibility.

Haha… I’ve heard someone refer to my kayak as a custom air-dam.
Do you have solar panels up on your camper?
If your kayaks are a long as you say, then they may cause shading.
Anyway, eTrailer has this you could use:

The panels are at the front. Plenty of roof space on a 37 footer

Usually people request a blue print from manufacturer,if possible to show roof truss locations. Have friends with truck camper that got blue prints.
