wow, that Solitude looks to be excellent. looking forward to reading more about it.

I toured a Fox Mountain 235 recently at a dealer. Seems to be good. Smaller and lighter than the Arctic Fox models. Perhaps a tier 2 level for Northwood?  Anyone have any comments about these Mountain models?

Ray: thanks for clarifying the issue, re LP used to power fridge when off grid.  This is consistent with my results.  Thus I wrote solar can augment.  I look forward to reading many solutions posted by others.

Thanks Ray, an inspiration.  Amazing, you generate enough power to run your  refrigerator on only 200W !  If I may share my experiences…

I tried solar many years ago, using the typical 12VDC systems. I found a roof mounted system to be near useless for me. Why?  [1] well, duh, solar needs sun. RV parked in the sun means RV gets very hot ins…[Read more]

I put recycled, solid oak in my old beater. It “worked” for me. Any type of floor can “work”. What do you mean by “work” ?

From experience, the slide-outs are a mixed blessing.  They add room, and weight, and means for yet more water leaks and more bugs to wiggle their way into your space, and require maintenance.  If anything becomes misaligned somehow, you have a big problem, especially if you cannot push back “in” prior to a road trip.  The Airstream trailer I ha…[Read more]

sorry, a typo. I meant to state: Keystone, LAREDO Light, the 265SRK model.

As my criteria is 30 feet, my choices come down to 2 units only:

    a/ Arctic Fox 27-5L, at LOA 29’5″, 9650# dry, est usd $48,000

    b/ Laredo 265SRK, at LOA 29’11”, 8750# dry, est usd $42,000

The Fox has almost 2x the fluids capacities and better R factors, but is $6,000 and…[Read more]

Well, an RV is really all about trade-offs, pros & cons, and personal tastes.  I am currently without an RV, but looking for the best solution for my needs; hence my interest in this group.

My last 5w was old, a brand no longer existing, and was at least 50% “customised” (ie rebuilt, that thing simply disintegrated day by day), so really of no…[Read more]

With no criteria listed, “best” is at best a matter of opinion. :-)
