Here is a few clips and images from our stay at the Salt Creek camp located in the Salton Sea State Rec Area, about a half hour south east of Palm Springs. I you can handle a bit of a fishy smell there is much beauty to enjoy.

I forgot to tell. That train in your video, its just like the one I work on. Only difference is I’m with the CSX R.R. I haul those types of container up and down what called the I-95 corridor. 41 yrs I been working on the railroad.  I operate 301 miles from Richmond, Va. to Florence, S.C.  Popa Choo Choo grandkids call me. 7 more months and I never pull another throttle, just hope to be pushing the throttle or gas pedal.

Good for you!! I am looking  at the same time frame and can’t wait!

I totally agree with Roger’s sentiment about work getting in the way of  our life now!!

That’s a long time Popa Choo Coo, you deserve a nice retirement now and enjoy life. :)

I always like to hear the train whistles off in the distance when boondocking in the desert.

Slab city, and Salvation mountain create a lot of controversy. I think its somewhere in that region?  Guess If I was in area I would check them out maybe, solo rvers have a section there.

We visited Salvation Mountain a few years back. It’s was pretty interesting what one guy could do. As far as the Slabs go we drove all thru it and didn’t find it very appealing, there was some funky art work and interesting boondocking rigs, but also lots of garbage and a few burnt out trailers. I think if you were to stay there a while and immerse yourself in the community it could be interesting. But judging by what I saw I think there is likely also a good deal of drug use and would be some criminal behavior.  Like they say “Last free place in America” with all the good and bad that it brings. Also lots of dogs running loose. But that was a while ago two years, it may be better now.

For Anne and I we like to have a nice scenic backdrop to our boondocking.

Think I would do a day trip through also. Heard there trying to shut it down someone said they cut water supply to slab city, someone else said it doesn’t matter they drink beer not water.
