@raytronx Ray, just finished your book, Tips for the RV Life. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Hey, I grew up with Beagles. Loved them. Currently, have a Maltese, a Jack Russell, and a black cat. My DW and I never had pets, but our girls worked us over. Still working my way through your videos. I am learning a lot about RVs and the Life Style. Hmmm, who…[Read more]

yum, sounds great. Cool here on Vancouver Island. We had a big rain last night now it’s clearing nicely, sunny and high sixties. Took Angie out for a long walk along the waterfront.
-
Been reading the latest edition of your newsletter. Currently, reading your book on my iPad while keeping on eye on my ribs from my remote grill thermometer. Too hot to sit outside. Just finished the Boondocking Basics section. I appreciate your expertise, experience, and enthusiasm!!!

How the ribs do?
-
Ribs were quite good. One rack rubbed down with Dreamland BBQ Rub from Alabama. The other rack rubbed down with a locally made rub here in Kentucky. Also, used a little sauce, one from Kansas City (Gates) and the other made in Nashville (Whitts). Quite the combinations. Took about 3.5 hours to smoke the ribs and another hour for them to…[Read more]

@lolaandrush Hi Lola and Rush,
Thanks for the friend request. I see that you have a ’14 Cougar 5er. Nice! I am an RV Wannabe, but my DW and I enjoy researching RVs and the life style. We enjoy learning and corresponding with RVers.
Have a nice evening,

We recently retire and are on a road trip of a life time for some. Just a stroll around the U.S. After Ray did a video on Eddie’s solar setup we scheduled a visit to Eddie’s for installation and a visit of the family too. Real excited about soon having the solar setup and learning how it works and understanding it all. Eddie’s been schooling me…[Read more]

Lola and Rush,
“Just a stroll around the U.S.,” I like the sound of that! Glacier NP and Key West, VERY NICE. Enjoy Glacier; hopefully, the fires will be under control soon.
Travel safe!

@we3ernes Hi Ray and Jen,
Just read your posts since joining RV Happy Hour. Love your energy and since of humor. I know about those moody teens. My 20 year old is out growing out of it.
My 17 year old has most of it behind her (us), I think!!!I am a fan of Views/Navions. Looking forward to hearing more about your travels.
Take care,
Dean
Hi All,
Congrats to the new retirees and the soon to be retirees. More exciting times ahead. Just about everyone that I have have worked with at my current university has retired. I started in higher education as a 27 year old young pup professor in 1990. Now 25 years later, I am a 52 year old not so young pup department head. I probably have 10…[Read more]
Too hot to do much of anything! Spent the day goofing off with my DW researching RV floorplans, etc. I think she is catching the RV Bug, too! Went to a party tonight for one of my colleagues that has gotten tenured and promoted at the university. Now, just chillin’ watching some of Ray’s Love My RV videos!

Hi Ray,
Great list of resources!!! Very nice. I think I need to quit my job and research RVs full-time. But, I guess I need to work, so I can actually afford an RV at some point! ![]()
Thanks,
Dean

I agree. My xmas gift about 2.5 years ago was a Bose speaker to go with my iPad. Best xmas gift ever. Easy to use. Great sound. I am a music fan. I have spent 100s of hours listening to it. Love to take it on the deck with me and listen while I grill and drink a cold beer. Nice!
@weebee9 Hi Bob and Phyllis,
Thank you for the friendship request. I have been exploring RVs and the RV life style for the last 7 months or so. I am always open to learning from others in terms of their experiences and wisdom
Thanks,

Welcome i have a 5th wheel keystone 270 it a 2009 and it just right size for the wife and our boss Fred. Been working on it off and on for a couple of months. I parked over a sprinkler head and it roted out the floor of my slideout. I am a slow worker but it is getting there. Just finished putting in the finial trim. Now to clean up the outside to…[Read more]

Hi Bob and Phyllis,
Thanks for the post. I think my DW and I will eventually end up with a Class C motorhome for our RV; however, I attended the Nashville RV show in January. I was shocked at how roomy and spacious the 5ers were in terms of their floor plans. Very nice!. It looks like you are finishing up your floor work. Cool beans. Look forward…[Read more]

@debrey Hi Debrey,
Thank you for the friend request. Right now I am in long-term RV research mode until the youngest daughter graduates from college. Until then, I am having fun learning about RVs and the RV lifestyle. At this point, I am interested in a 27 ft, plus/minus 2 ft. Class C (B+) rig with a permanent bed (twins or island bed). Other…[Read more]

I have parked near people with Lexington class B’s twice now. They make a model that is about 30 ft and has 3 slides. there is a small opposing slide in the front. When we got our A one of our requirements opposing slides. They really make a big difference.
@bobandnancy Hi Bob and Nancy, thanks for the friend request! I am a newbie in the RV world and my RV research is my new hobby and way that I spend my discretionary time when I have some time. I am so impressed with how friendly folks are. I look forward to learning from the pros!

Hi Dean, you’re welcome and wise to research first. Is that your livelihood, research?
-
Actually, I am a university professor, teaching and research are my first nature!!! My DW gives me a hard time.
I am one of those that digs deep into anything that grabs my attention (food, cooking, grilling, good beer, and now RVs). I grew up in rural Indiana on both a 10 acre and 90 acre farms. Spent my boyhood roaming the woods, fishing,…[Read more]-
Thanks for your reply, it sounds great! I work in manufacturing. The company I work for presently manufactures powdered metal parts for a variety of uses. The most lucrative is automotive. Love the name of your rig. I agree. I want to see all the places that are posted via pictures here as well. September is just around the corner. I look forward to seeing pictures of your travels and destinations!!! Do your dachshunds travel with you?
-
Yes they do! They are wonderful traveling companions! The two of them usually curl up between the front seats of our Classy Miss Lilly and sleep the entire ride. In general we have to wake them up to make sure they do their business!!
-
I grew up with lots of dogs and cats on the farm. When I was a kid, we had a stray dachshund that adopted us. My parents got so close to Dandy that my dad referred to him as his “Number 1 Son”!!!
My parents later had a pair of miniature dachshunds. Our family currently has two dogs and a cat that our girls wanted over the years. Both dogs love…[Read more]

What ya know, weather folks got it right, Kentucky and The South did get our snow (ice south of here). All of KY has a blanket of snow. Got 9 to 10 inches here locally. Our biggest snow since ’96 when we got 6 inches locally. Will get even MORE cold now. Calling for -11 by Thursday morning shattering our old record. It is WINTER in The South!
-
Oh, sure laugh it up! (I say smiling). I escaped Michigan 7 yrs ago. Been living in NC ever since.
This accumulated ice is NOT supposed to be Here!
Believe it or not though, I’m a die-hard…. I can hear the freezing rain hitting my camper roof as I comment-
Got a text from my nephew today that is living outside of San Diego. In shorts, playing disc golf! I am impressed with your die-hardedness!!!
-
Hearing this makes it hard on us that are snow bound.

-
Just so you feel better. I have had to put on the long pants again and wearing a sweater in the morning. Of course it’s partly my fault for camping up to 5 thousand feet, but it’s still quite the hardship!

Stay warm, spring is coming.-
Oh wow…such a hardship! LOL
-
-
Margo, sorry to hear you are snow bound. I got out today at 5:30 pm for the first time since Sunday night. I shoveled my drive for about an hour. Worked up a sweat in a long t-shirt and 17 degrees. I think another hour tomorrow will clear my drive wide enough to get our cars on the road. The university has been closed since Monday and is closed…[Read more]

Have you wondered if you fell asleep and woke up in the arctic and no one will tell you the truth? Lately I’ve felt that way!!

I’m from NC. Here in MI because DH retired and went home. Now want to leave and travel. Hung up here because of son living in house. Trying to figure a way to still take care of him and travel like we want. We get away a week or so at a time for now. Hoping to snowbird to FL sometime.
-
-
Ray, long pants and a sweater. Don’t get frost bite!!!
Those hardships are tough, but somebody has to do them!!!-
Do I detect Global Warming?
-
-
Margo, my college roommate and good friend has lived in Michigan for decades. I thought Indiana (where I grew up) was cold at times, but my trips to Michigan in January years ago taught me quickly how cold REAL cold is. Michigan is plenty cold. I hope things work out for you and DH to travel and even snowbird to FL!
-
-
Okay, I confess, shoe-skating down the site to the road was a little fun….
-
Actually, I enjoyed getting out and shoveling snow a bit. I am sure after tomorrow I will have had enough of it, though. Actually, I remembered tonight AFTER I shoveled that my DW bought me a pair of “ice traction slip ons” about a year ago. I have not needed them. They are rubber straps that stretch over your shoes that have exposed hex-head…[Read more]

Looks like much of the south is going to get its first major winter storm of the season. Kentucky will be hammered tonight and tomorrow. Depending on the area of KY, calling for 4 to 12 or more inches of snow. Locally, calling for 10 inches. Our last decent snow locally was 1996 when we got 6 inches. University of Kentucky closed. Western Kentucky…[Read more]

We are always willing to share our snow! – Nancy

All we got last night was thunder, lightning and a bit of rain. Low’s last night and tonight, mid 20’s. That’s enough, thank you…
-
I hope that’s all you get! -Nancy
-
-
Hi Bob and Nancy,
You were too gracious with your sharing! We got nearly 10 inches!
-
We got another coupla inches again today, Nancy…
-
We are supposed to get another 1 to 3 inches tonight. We will see. Shoveled my drive for about an hour tonight. Need to do another hour tomorrow, but may take longer if we get more snow.
-
-
Not a problem. In fact we are having more snow right now, so it didn’t stop or deplete any of our growing stock! -Nancy

-
The university has been closed since Monday and will be closed tomorrow as well. At least I can work on email from home and I am about caught up!!! If we get more snow tonight and the temperatures drops as much as they predict, I don’t know if we will have classes at all this week.

Hi Cindy and Bruce,
That is quite a change to go from 2,000 sq ft to maybe 200 sq ft??? But, what an adventure. Nevada, Washington, Texas, etc. Wow. Looks like lots of opportunities to explore and to make friends. Enjoy!

We have a 40ft 5th wheel about 430 Sq. Ft. but some times feels like less. It forces you to keep things picked up and put away other wise it feels like 50 Sq. Ft. :0)

The DW and I recently went to our first RV show. We are primarily interested in Class Cs or B+s. But, we had lots of fun looking at TTs and Fivers as well. Some of the Fivers are AMAZING. Beautiful and spacious floorplans.

Well, may I respectfully suggest a Class C (Classy!) If there’s just one or two two-legged RVers, it’s great! I love mine… and you can officially be in the Classy Club. What a perk!!!

Hi Norma,
Actually, we are on the same page. For Laura and I, I think Class Cs offer many of the features that interest us the most. I am interested in Class Cs (or B pluses, still Cs) somewhere between 25 to 29 feet. It will be primarily us, but I would like the possibility of having a future grand baby or two with us or my brother and his wife…[Read more]

Originally, the Lurch rode 7 and slept 8, but now only rides 3 and sleeps 6, since the dinette was removed when I got him. Since there’s only me, it’s no problem. He’s a 32 ft though with a bedroom in the back. Dinette rode 4 with seatbelts and slept 2.
-
I love the fact that our 24 ft Class C can fit into parking spaces and is not restricted from certain parks because of size. I am willing to drive our “Lilly” but I will not drive a class A ! – Nancy
-
Hi,
I love the length of 24 to 25 footers, but love the space of 29 to 31 footers. One thing I have learned from RVers in my research is that everything is a compromise and a balancing act with RVs. However, I guess that goes for life in general!

@laurentravel Lauren, thank you for the friend request. I am interested in buying an RV down the road once I get my youngest daughter college educated. Can’t afford an RV and two girls in college!!! ![]()
@eddie Hi Eddie & Aileen,
Thanks for the friend request. Great pictures. Been researching RVs and the lifestyle for about 6 months now. No RV in my immediate future. Trying to get my girls college educated first! Looks forward to learning from folks that have been RVing for awhile. Thanks again.

Hi Norma and Wanderlust, thank you for the welcome. To the tell truth, I don’t currently own an RV. However, I caught the bug about 6 months ago.
