My new RV antenna is one of those that just sits on the roof. It doesn’t extend up/down or rotate – there is no inside knob or winding handle.
Is there any (hopefully simple) way to boost my digital reception? -
I am in the process of deciding if I want to become a full-time RVer. Lots of stuff to consider, not the least of which is that I’m single and have a bum (handicapped) leg.
That said…. How would a full-timer bring a golf-cart?
I have a truck and trailer. I could load the cart onto the truck…How on earth do I get myself a set of ramps…[Read more]

I think you would need a toy hauler, they have a built in ramp. Otherwise I have seen rigs with ramps built to drive a small SUV (suzuki samurai or geo tracker, think small jeep) on. I’m sure you could find someone to build a set of ramps. The bad part is that ramps that strong are going to be heavy unless powered.

Sorry for the delayed response and thank you. I’ve seen a fair number of campers with aluminum ramps. When I ask them where they were purchased, the response is ‘online’ , but no one can seem to remember where! I agree with you, they will need to be well- built and everything I have discovered online doesn’t look sturdy enough. Am I missing…[Read more]

RV Pets 1 month, 1 week ago · updated 1 month, 1 week agoAll that drama for nothin’! Don’t know if I mentioned it but my fur baby is a rescue. The short story… Got the bark collar, put it on the lowest possible setting. The result was nothing short of miraculous. He was behaving perfectly. Taking the collar off when he’s indoors he starts acting up. After a couple days, it became obvious that
#1 he…[Read more] -

RV Pets 1 month, 3 weeks ago · updated 1 month, 2 weeks agoWouldn’t dream of going anywhere without my best friend Harley, the pug. He was 7 when I rescued him and, unfortunately bias never “taken” to camping very well. High Anxiety issues. If anyone walks by the camper to close (according to him) he barks and goes crazy even if it’s a neighbor coming to say hello. Otherwise he’s grasped all of his other…[Read more]

Our beagle has separation anxiety and would howl and bay if left alone. I bought a electric bark collar, it has 6 shock levels starting very mild, and with only a few jolts she stopped. It was amazing how quick it worked. I guess becasue there was no association with me.
She knows now when the collar goes on and is quiet and actually much calmer…[Read more] -
We use a similar collar with our two mini doxies. It has a tone and mild jolt. We have a remote for them, so if we are outside the RV or house or inside we tone them (and that’s all they need now.) Sometimes all I have to do is say – “Do you want me to get the collar” and they quiet down. Dogs are very smart! -Nancy

And I think he’s very handsome! – Nancy

I was really hoping to avoid “the collar” but want to enjoy!

I felt bad at first, but you really don’t have to use the shock but once or twice, they are very intelligent critters !! They are happier knowing we are in charge and they don’t have to take over! – Nancy

I am following this thread because I have 2 Schnauzers – “Mr and Mrs BarksAlot” Chico and Cinnamon. They too have separation anxiety.
Chico is territorial and will also snap at the ankle of someone walking away from him, so I need to keep a good eye on him.
Cinnamon is all in your face and is opposite.
When we go anywhere and leave them in the…[Read more] -
Hey Kimberly! Wow, do I feel your pain!
I received the Thundershirt four days ago. Followed instructions to the “T”. I would put it on him and it made him worse! My son and I deduced that it was the Velcro and confirmed by borrowing a regular collar with Velcro. Ug.
After two days of researching I found one that I felt was most humane, and…[Read more] -
Try a “Dog Appeasing Pheromone” collar. It helped my Lab get over here separation anxiety when I adopted her. On Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/Adaptil-Appeasing-Pheromone-Collar-Medium/dp/B000HPVH78/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1425954454&sr=8-1&keywords=dog+appeasing+pheromone+collar
I was skeptical, but it helped a lot.

I just came back from the vet, it would appear that the renovations we are doing on the house are stressing our old female cat, Arriet. She’s lost a pound and a half, and has blood in her urine. The vet recommended a product called Feliway, they sprayed a little bit on her fur, and she calmed down almost instantly. I bought the diffuser and the…[Read more]

My daughter used a citronella collar to stop her shelter dog from going nuts and barking and it worked and doesn’t hurt them just sprays and they don’t like the smell didn’t take any time at all to have him not bark. Be careful thought any dog can get collar smart and then it doesn’t work that great on either methods. Our friends dog is collar…[Read more]

RV Newbies 2 months ago · updated 1 month, 3 weeks agoA question and suggestion….
The suggestion for any newbie is to get tour hands on a book called “10 Minute Tech” . Totally invaluable, real – life, frugal , answers to day to day issues while camping. It sling-shotted my whole understanding of RV Camping. In the above mentioned book, they highly recommended sprinkling Comet cleaning powder…[Read more]

I rented an RV in Durham, NC a few years ago. It came with ants, and we spent 6 weeks trying getting rid of them. I was in Camping World yesterday and noticed they sell little screens that you can put over your furnace vent. I wish you luck.

We use Raid Ant drops, comes in a little red bottle, has worked every time we have had ants in the rig., kills the nest.

I’ve heard of this homemade repellant before, did it work?
I live in the south (ish) east. I hate putting all those harsh chemicals on (like deet) every year. I’ve tried a couple other creative, homemade solutions, but nothing’s worked as well as Deep Woods Off.

Has anyone ever installed a second vent on the opposite side of the camper, one pulling in and one pulling out to create air-flow? What do you think the Pro’s and Con’s would be?
I was just remembering something my Uncle did in his workshop.

Any ideas on how to thaw the Drain Hose? (What can I say, I’m new and from the south…. Never stood a chance against the Artic Blast!)

Most RV’s have a built in booster, look in your main area where the cable comes for the TV. There should be what looks like a wall plate with the cable connector, and a power button with a small LED close by. Is your LED lit? Do you have the cables configured to use the booster?
Unfortunately, yes & yes (light on and working). I do get a fair number of channels – maybe 20 – but none very well. Most frustrating when a show seems to be coming in well and then more than half way through it gets all “mumble jumbled” . (I’m sure that’s a scientific word Somewhere, lol)
“mumble jumbled” is called digital dropout.
Even cloud cover, trees, can affect TV signal when weak.
You could try putting a second booster in, it may help some. (cheapest option) A better quality aim-able antenna would probably be your best solution.
I so appreciate your help with this, and thank you for the translation of my scientific term ! Unfortunately , I don’t know how to go about finding a better aim-able antenna…. Could you point me in the right direction? Please & Thank You! Camping World shows a Winegard Roadstar Omni Directional Antenna…. Like that?
The omni-directional antenna only has a range of 35 miles, whereas the aim-able antenna has a range of 55 miles. Depending on where you are located in reference to the TV transmitters would affect which model would be best for you. If you were going to the bother of changing antenna, I’use this one. It has a range of 90…[Read more]
