Wicked campsite!!

This is at Presquile Provincial park, its only about 2Kms from our house but was a perfect way to shake out the systems in the new RV. There are about 12 or 15 sites like this one right along lake Ontario. I’d like to report that everything worked perfectly although we went through 75 Gal of water in 3 days, gonna have to work on that……

Thanks Eddie, think I will do like most folks and start to assemble the parts and perhaps next year will do a self install.

J J started the topic Inverter chargers in the forum Solar Power 1 month, 1 week ago
OK solar experts, if I install a inverter with a charger how do I prevent the charger / converter in the RV from also trying to charge the batteries at the same time. I have a 4 stage 65A charger built into the RV converter, it’s a Progressive Dynamics unit..

We just picked up our new Jayco Eagle and wanted to say a word about our dealer. Seems they get a bad rap mostly here in cyber world however we dedicated some time in picking the dealer we would work with and it has payed off in spades. Our experience was simply outstanding, the trailer was sparkling clean inside and out, all systems had been…[Read more]

@raytronx You heading back to the Island Ray?
-
Yup. We will spend May to end of October on the Island. We are booked into an RV Park in Campbell River May 10th to Sept 10th, love it up there.
-
I lived in Comox for 8 years, I’m very familiar with the area. Perhaps next summer we will spend a month on the island. We pick up our Jayco Eagle on Tue, let the fun begin😎
-
Cool. My wife Anne loves the boating up there. Moors her 17 1/2 foot power boat all summer long and as a blast exploring the area.
-
Excellent! Perhaps we can have a chat sometime on your preferred RV spots on the Island and lower mainland. We were not RVing in the days we lived that way so really have no idea.
-
You bet, there are quite a few BC RVers in RVHH, so we should be able to hookup you.

For all you solar experts, if you were starting from a clean slate what would your plan look like based on your past experience? What equipment would you not get again, what would be a definite must have. Would you build the system in stages, do a DIY install.
I am starting with a new 36′ 5er and plan to do a fair amount of dry camping. I expect…[Read more]

First must have is a decent battery monitor, especially for folks that don’t have a background in electricity. See how much you use so you can plan for how much solar you require.
I ‘m building my system in DIY stages as funds permit. It’s working out well.
I started with good batteries and went from there. -
Hi J J, I would put the power storage on the list first with a bank of batteries that will power your needs and what you may want to power in the future. Also like Ray said, a good battery monitor will help you know when the “Tank” is full or getting low. Do a good job wiring, try not to cut corners on size and installation, this is a “BIG” thing…[Read more]

Love our system, no complaint and works like a champ. Just wish I’d had more space for equipment is about the only thing we can think of.
-
After 5 months of running solar power we have put her through the test. We are not real power hungry people. Not a lot of needs other than the CPAP, TV, and coffee pot, Nuwave cooktop and Toaster. Charge the phone and Ipad, along with my laptop. We recently stayed in Tallahassee, Fl. for a week and it stayed cloudy three days. Absolutely no…[Read more]

Boondockers 3 months, 2 weeks ago · updated 3 months, 2 weeks ago
OK folks, Donna and I have started the planning for next winters snowbird adventures through the Southern US. We are wondering what would be a good time to hit the boondocking sites in AZ / CA? We are thinking Feb, we are not interested in the big RV show in Quartzsite, thinking we would prefer to avoid those crowds. What do ya think???

@raytronx Ray; loved your video on KOFA. I am learning tons on BLM & NFS lands and boondocking. Starting to understand there is a lot of research to be done to discover these spots, and of course where the resources are to uncover them. Thanks for sharing your info and insight, it sure helps us new folks out.
Enjoying the sun, and relative heat wave, here in Kansas City, MO. Dreaming of RV season.
Ok all you boondocking veterans, I’ve been thinking about this tank sensor issue of not providing correct readings. Must be something I’m missing in all this. Why would it matter, my 5’er has a 81 Gal fresh water capacity, the gray tank is 87 Gal, and the black is 50 Gal. So, if all that goes into the Grey and Black comes from the fresh tank it…[Read more]

Yup, we don’t worry..unless we start adding water from an external tank before dumping.
The black tank is the main concern and it will burp or bubble when nearly full giving warning that it’s very close to full, because the rising water will block the air vent.
I have two gray tanks so can move water from one to the other, but I wouldn’t want to…[Read more]-
Yep, this is exactly what I was thinking…. I would imagine with just the two of us it would take a couple weeks for sure to fill a 50g black tank….. Was also wondering when your boondockin in a busy spot like Q, when you pull out to dump tanks, do laundry, get propane and the like do you every worry about your spot being taken when you get back….
-
Not really, there is lots of land, I would just pick a different spot, but usually in Quartzsite, we have friends camped with us. I guess to you could always leave some camp chairs and things to make it look occupied.
-
As you mentioned in your video today, it was packed there for sure… Guess I am just a little nervous about heading down the road without a reservation…. As with everything once we get some experience it will all seem mater of fact…… We are experimenting with a Thermos, shuttle chef cooker today, should be great for boondocking as it does…[Read more]
-
Packed but still lots of room, usually boondockers like to be a little spaced out but they know when it comes to Quartzsite it will be tighter.
We wing it most of the time in our travels. Only get reservations for things like National Parks during busy times.
NO never heard of it.

Hi All, been a busy few weeks here! Confirmed that we pickup the new 5er on 19th of April… The truck is on the assembly line and I now have a VIN number so things are starting to take shape. Been booking a few local camp grounds, just a few days at a time to get the kinks ironed out in addition to working on our system for making and breaking…[Read more]

Hi Ray, yes I must say we are like kids at Christmas! Let me tell you how much we have enjoyed your videos, they have given us a great perspective into may topics. Your boondocking vids are also bang on and I will be visiting some of your choice spots for sure!
I see you are a west coast guy, from the island, we spent many years in Comox and two…[Read more]-
Thanks, JJ.

Yes, we are from Victoria, sold the house and have been full timing it since.
We spend half the year on Vancouver Island, the good half. This year we’ll be back up Campbell River again for 4 months. Give us a shout if you’re out that way.-
You bet, when we get going we plan to start off in the south west US and as spring approaches work out way back up to BC. Only a matter of time till our paths cross for sure.

Nice spot, good looking rig too.
Have you tried Bon Echo park?
We haven’t been to Bon Echo as of yet however its on our list. In the midst of planning our trip to BC this Sept. We are up at Darlington PP this coming weekend.
