RVHH Meetups 2 weeks, 2 days ago · updated 2 weeks, 2 days agoWe are RVing in St. Augustine, Florida this winter. We are right on the beach and loving it! Our Australian Labradoodle “Ivy” just loves the beach but won’t go in the water??? Today it is pouring cats and dogs, but the weather has been so nice, compared to MA. (home) where it is 5 degrees and snowy!

Does anyone have any good RV magazines they can recommend??

@snowgooseandgoosebumps Welcome! We are new snowbirds from MA.

Ray and friends: Just a quick question…our stabilizers and jacks are down but the RV still seems to shake when someone walks or moves quickly. Is this normal or is there something we can do to make it more solid feeling??
-
I use the X-chocks, prevents forward/rearward motion. Some movement is inevitable, it is a vehicle.
-
That is very normal.
-
I believe you have a fifth wheel.
It’s normal, we are totally use to it. Some people will use a tripod on the king pin or stabilizer bars on the front jacks like these for example – http://lci1.com/jt-strong-arm
Everyone has a different tolerance to the movement, but with the trailer sitting on suspension and rubber tires it’s pretty hard to…[Read more] -
My 2010 Montana 3665RE, I had 4 point BigFoot Automatic leveling system installed. It is pretty solid, but as Ray said, everyone has different tolerance. We never used rear Stabilizer after installing BigFoot. The 5th wheel would still shake when the washer it spin cycle, but not from walking around.
I put BigFoot on for easy of setup. It…[Read more]

I put the steadyfast system on my Montana they attach to the frame and the jacks it takes alot of the shake out.

Well we made it to Florida but not without some damage. My darling husband ran into 2 gas station pumps at 2 different stations!! Poor guy was all upset. Once we got to St. Augustine and set up, he realized the real damage that was done to the tire, wheel and bent axel. OMG we were so lucky nothing happened while we were traveling! An RV guy…[Read more]

So sorry to hear about the whoops! Glad you made it safe and sound. Hope it is not to expensive.

Ron & Carol, you guys are definitely on our prayer list! Don’t be too hard on yourself Ron, stuff happens! Nancy & I were just saying how that lifestyle requires one to be flexible as we never know what’s around the next corner!! You both are okay and you got to where you were going, it’s all okay!!!
-
Ron and Carol,
Stuff happens, and usually when you are in a hurry. I am still working so we try to stay within 4 hour drive from the house. When I retire we plan to hit the road until we can’t stand it, then come home for a while, and hit the road again. Our plan is to travel 120-150 miles on a travel day, and stay 3-14 days per stop. If we…[Read more]

“My preference is to get fuel when I am not hooked up, some gas stations are not setup for RV’s.”
And carry a couple of 5 gallon gas cans in the back for the days when you travel farther. Need gas for the gens anyway.

Sorry to hear of your mishap. We all have our stories of mishaps. As others have said dont be hard on yourself. use this as a learning experence. I’m like John i try to fuel up when I’m not hook up usally when I’ve stopped to camp for the night. Good luck on your repairs hopefully it wont be too much.
-
Mishaps are not fun. Eddie and I have had out fair share of them. Glad you all are okay. We no for sure what you are going through. Eddies Dad had a big Euracoach ad he hit the yellow Walmart pylons and ripped the whole side and underneath out. It was pretty traumatic for him also. It is not fun to have to go through. Eddie and I most of…[Read more]

We are looking for a good RV GPS system. Any suggestions??? Do we really need WIFI too????
Thanks for any help you can offer. Leaving in 2 weeks now for Florida!! -
Carol and I are NEW to RV’ing. We have only taken our 5th wheel around the block and are planning to head to Florida in December, around Xmas time. What is vital to our learning curve at this time?? Snow arrived here in MA. yesterday and we are planning to go to St. Augustine for the month of January and see where life takes us from there.

Practice. Weather permitting of course, take the rig to a big empty parking lot and get use to the way it tracks in corners and how much room it takes to brake, etc and practice backing it up.

-
Well said Ray, I got myself into a tricky situation the other day to get fuel where I had to get an employ who was near by to back me out so that I could maneuver out of a tricky situation. I guess the moral of the story is that never be afraid to ask for help.
-
Good advice Bob, best thing for an RVer to do is leave the ego at the door.
-
Maybe carry gas-cans, so if you need fuel, but pumps aren’t accessible, you can at least haul what you need to the truck?
-
-
-
I need to try that but the key is to find an empty parking lot

Welcome to the Happy Hour, Ron!

Thank you! So much to learn…so little time! We leave in 5 weeks for Florida from MA. 1st time out so my wife is a little nervous!
-
You’ll be fine. Don’t be nervous, be excited! It’s an adventure. Nothing will happen that you can’t handle together.
-
Like Norma says think of it as an adventure

Hi Tom and Carol welcome to our group! We are also soon to be on the road full-time and it is exciting, but is also making me a little nervous, just the big changes and making sure we have a place to park. But no big deal really we can just pull over eventually. Lol

@raytronx Ray, hoping you might have some advice on this. I have a Wacker GP 2500 generator for a 36′ Cardinal 5th wheel. When I plug the generator in the trailer, the circuit breaker will trip. The trailer works fine with 110 house power to the trailer. The generator works fine with other power tools etc. Is there something I need to make…[Read more]
-
Is it the circuit breaks on the generator that trips or one inside the trailer?
-
It’s the circuit breaker on the generator.
-
That’s a strange one. I wonder if there are too many thing on in the RV and the initial current rush is tripping it, although you wold think it would also trip the house one, but it may be a 20 amp in there. I would flip all the breakers off in the RV except the main one and then try again, so that you eliminate that as a possible problem. If that…[Read more]

Thanks Ray. I will try that…..very strange!

We both still work part-time, so it wouldn’t be for us right now. I love it so far!
