Thinking about installing slide toppers on our grand design 303’s three slide outs.
Understand it will help prevent damage to the gaskets in case limbs/twigs are on top when you pull the slide in.
But there’s the installation expense and then concern about about awning degradation.
I figure as long as I’m able bodied enough to climb on the roof…[Read more] -

Discovered a couple of small tears in our rubber roofed grand design reflection, less than 1″ long.
Patch with decor or eternabond tape?
Thanks

Think we’re going to bite the bullet and replace all our incandescent bulbs with LEDs.
Anya thoughts on a decent vendor?
What about color temperature/Kelvin, I would think 4000 would be a better choice than 5000.
Thanks

2700-3200K gives a fairly natural looking light, the higher number tends to more blue or green tinted light. As to vendors, the whole LED field is still in flux (no pun intended) as the technology improves. Some of the cheaper units tend to overheat the diodes, I’ve had a few that strobe one diode after an hour of operation. Really annoying!…[Read more]

Thanks Roger, were you able to get a discount if bought a bunch of them?

No, didn’t have any luck with that.

They’re not cheap, but I’ve had great luck with http://www.m4products.com I much prefer the warmer color light, 2700º K or so. The really cheap ones from eBay can be a problem.

thanks Richard, better selection and much cheaper than camping world.

One other thought: replacing ALL the bulbs in the rig can be quite an expense. For example: all those bulbs in the storage compartments. I figured out which bulbs I want to leave on for extended periods (say, all evening) and just replaced those. My goal was to extend battery life, as I suspect yours may be, and so replacing the bulbs I only…[Read more]

As long as you remember to turn them off!
Most of the LED’s aren’t as bright as the original bulbs, put some aluminum foil tape, available in the furnace and duct section, on the metal heat shield in your ceiling fixtures, acts as an internal reflector.-
I haven’t had a problem with brightness! But that’s a cool idea.

We went with 3200K I think they are good, close to incandescent, Anne thinks they are greenish. They are good for reading and task lighting but not as rosey as the incandescent for making a human look good. She keeps her bathroom sink one incandescent.

We got Starlights brand, still nice and bright and working well after about 8 months of full…[Read more]-
One of the areas that have very poor lighting is over the stove. I did a mod very shortly after we bought trailer, ordered a bunch of flat LED’s from Hong Kong, and attached them to the diffuser in the vent hood. They’ve worked for nearly 2 years now with no problems.
There are pictures in my media albums under small mods

My tank sensors don’t seem to be working right, our 5th wheel is brand new.
When filling fresh water tank, 1/4 & 1/2 don’t register, then all of a sudden it shows full.
Same with gray and black tanks.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
John

Hi, personally I would go back to the dealership. If it’s all three sensors, you may have a “short” in your system. You sure don’t want to mess around with those readings! It should be covered under warranty. Good luck!
-
Thanks, we will sure do that.

John, I agree with Rebecca & Stu, The fact that your rig is new makes me suspect an error in wiring or something. Best to call the dealer and get their feedback.
Let us know how you make out. -Bob-
Thanks Bob, I’ll get back to you guys as soon as we get it taken care of.

Our waste tank sensors are basically useless from crud build up and it’s too much of a pain to waste my time trying to clean then to just have them foul up again, I stopped using them long ago, but the fresh water one should work, ours works fine even after four years.
-
Ok thanks

I had something similar happen on my TT, it had been towed to the dealership in winter months over salted roads. The bolts that make the ground connection for the sensors to the frame rusted and broke off. I ended up replacing just about every one of the self tapping bolts installed at the factory as gas line supports, straps that support the…[Read more]

I haven’t had a topper on mine going on 4 years now and haven’t seen the need for one. Like you though, I’m easily able to get up there and clean it. We just have it on our depart check list to check the roof for debris. Also I don’t have to listen to them flapping when it gets windy or worry that a big wind will rip them off the rig.
Guess it…[Read more]
Our first 5th wheel had 2 slides & no toppers. The 5th wheel we have now has 3 slides, all with toppers. For us we would never have a unit without them. No more cleaning, no dirt, not wet, they come in nice and clean. As for flapping, we have never heard any and we have been in some very strong winds. Our toppers are 12 yrs. old and are just…[Read more]
Everything is always a trade off. We have three slides and no toppers and were told that they were not needed. But I kinda think they would be nice to have just the same. Like Ray says you might have problems later on. We will keep an eye on ours hope for the best.
Talked to a guy in Mojave, CA last year, he lost all 4 of his toppers in a huge wind event, he said it was gusting at 100 MPH and he was pointed into it so it got under them, Can see why they have all those windmills there. I see many folks down here in the desert using various means to strap them down, usually nylon straps.
