Dale, It’s a peel and stick, brand is Smart Tile. Chancey road has a lot of rv parks and Zephyrhills has close to 30 or 40.
Ordered a Progressive Ind. EMS-LCHW50 hard wired unit, should have it tomorrow, I hope this is not to hard to install. Thanks for everyone’s input.
Surge Protectors:
Are they really necessary? We have very little electrical knowledge. So if some of you electrical savvy rvers could enlighten us it would be greatly appreciated.

I would say it depends where you stay. If you are RVing mostly in modern parks with very good maintenance on new looking power pedestals you could probably get away without one.
But if like us travel around a lot and try to save a buck by using cheaper older RV parks, or Thousand Trails type membership parks where electrical is sometimes old and…[Read more]

Thanks Ray, I see yours is hard wired in the rig, do you recommend this type or can an outside the rig unit work just as well? We will need a 50 amp unit.
-
The outside one has the same functionality, I just find the hardwired one a little more convenient, never have to think about it and one less thing to hookup and pack away.

-
We found out the hard way or should say the expensive way, why you always use a surge protector.
-
Thanks for your input, it looks like we have been very lucky. We will be looking into getting one installed.

We bought the 50 amp version of the progressive. Luckily they are built 50 miles from us. The mother board on ours was bad and we called the 24 hr tech support and they walked me threw a few test to determine the problem. Shipped it to me one day and got it the next. Replaced it and sent bad one back with no issues since. Our fiver is like Rays.…[Read more]

We are currently work camping at a provincial park and the compound we are in has fluctuating power at the pedestal. I have the Surge Guard and it has been shutting me down daily as it requires 102-132 volts. The other couple next door don’t have one and so far have been lucky they haven’t fried anything. As I write this my Surge Guard is boosting…[Read more]

One thing about having it hardwired is it’s one less thing that can “walk off.”

I have the 50 amp version of what Ray has. I went the hardwired way just so no one would walk away with it.

Pamela & Anna replied to the topic Best 5th wheel (in your opinion) for full time living? in the forum Trailers 1 year ago
We bought our first 5th wheel new, lived full time in it for ten yrs., learned a lot and realized you can get a much better rv used. Most used rvs have not been used very much. In our opinion you can save an awful lot of money by buying a used rv. A few brands to check out, Teton, Travel Supreme, Alfa Gold, Carriage, Newmar, Although these brands…[Read more]

@ourrvlife After looking at your site I had a thought about your roof leaks. You seem to have sealed just about all you can but the problem could be the roof AC seal. The AC has a rubber foam type seal that if it hasn’t been replaced for years it could be leaking. The problem with RV roof leaks is that the water travels in the inner roof area and…[Read more]

Pamela & Anna replied to the topic extended warranty in the forum Ask for Help 1 year, 2 months ago
Based on our experience, extended warranties aren’t worth having, mind you that’s just our opinion. Most used RV’s haven’t been used very much. Most go out for a week or two or a few weekends a year and generally are not used as fulltime units. Our first unit we had for nine years and our second (2003 Kountry Star) for three years now and no…[Read more]

It plugs into 120, can be used either way, permanent or movable. We use an independent propane line connected to a 20lb. cylinder. In our first 5th wheel we tapped into the RV gas line, in our current unit it wouldn’t have been practical to do.

Lauren, We had them for the first time as an appetizer at the Cigar City Brewing Co. in Tampa Fl. You cut them the same as French fries only you use Yucca root (can be found in the produce section of most grocery stores) even Wal-Mart. They are a little starchier than potatoes in texture, a nice snack with a good pale ale.

Ray, no fan noise at all. Sitting right next to it I cannot hear the fan. The fan automatically comes on to move the heat out of the unit, same as a typical furnace so disabling the fan is not an option. This little unit has easily heated our fifth wheel into the seventy degree range all day with an outside temperature in the 30’s. Since it is…[Read more]

We have been using a Rinnai vent less heater. It needs 120 volt for the fan and onboard electronics, this could be handled with a small inverter for boondocking. These are a bit pricier but in the long run more than pay for themselves. We’ve had ours for over fifteen years now and it still works wonderfully. …[Read more]

If you have any problems don’t be afraid to just call up the company, they are a small firm and I found them to be very responsive and helpful.
Thanks Ray, It doesn’t seem to complicated but our electrical knowledge on a scale of 1 to 10 is about a 2 or 3. We’ll let you know how it went when we’re done.
All went well, surge protector hard wired in and seems to working (we have electric) and we did it all by ourselves. It wasn’t hard except for the wires, very hard to work with in a small area. One question though, what do you do if the unit has to come out for some reason, how would you suggest reconnecting the wires?
Awesome! My unit replaced a junction box that was put in by the trailer maker. Inside that the wires were connected by some wire nuts, so I hung on to those. You could go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy some just in case you need to remove it. Just make sure to get wire nuts that can handle the large gauge wire, likely your power cable is using 6…[Read more]
