Oh Canada 2 weeks, 3 days agoHello Fellow Canadians, Thought you might find a couple nuggets in our Canadian Campground Reviews. They are only in AB and BC, and there isn’t a large number, but I do post them as I get the time to write. http://www.rvlifecanadianstyle.ca/search/label/Campgrounds

Maybe Ray can chime in on this one. In your travels, boon docking, in out of the way locations, that you would get to with a 4×4, what in your opinion is the max length of a 5th wheel, to be going? I realize there is an ideal situation for every location, but generally we like to go on gravel and dirt roads with a 4×4 towing our unit. Some in…[Read more]

During our first winter of RV life in Canada, we look back and reflect on the whole downsizing and simplifying process, we realize that we have no regrets in choosing the full time life.
Even with the Canadian Winters, we are living in freedom and so happy to be able to share in the Full Time Lifestyle with others.

Oh, man, we are going through this now. One step at a time. It has taken us a month just to get to the point of where we are sorting things we HAVE to keep. We were both in business and have to keep our business records for 7 years before we can shred them. We also don’t know where/what we will end up doing/living when we sell our house but have…[Read more]

Hi Virginia and Don,
Wow, I know the feeling you are having. Have you thought about a Toy Hauler? They do have several brands now that are built with dual pane windows, added insulation etc. We thought of that also, but we were more determined to stay under 30′ for the time being. Ross teaches workshops and crafts drums, arrows, etc….so he…[Read more]

A toy hauler would be a good option. Only thing is that when we were on our way back from our cross Canada trip last August, we stopped in Halifax and traded in our 2007 Cougar on a shiny brand new one. Spending two months in the old Cougar going from Vancouver Island to Whitehorse and then to Newfoundland and all places in between made me realize…[Read more]

We just bought a Jayco Eagle 36 foot fiver and a new Ford F-350. We had considered the “let’s sell everything and buy an RV approach” however after several months of careful consideration we have decided to keep our house. We have been downsizing or de-stuffing for several years now so dealing with the stuff was not the issue. We just could not…[Read more]

Curious, does anyone on here, have a Carriage product? Or know of a friend who does? Any opinions? We have an opportunity for one, it’s a 27 rear kitchen, with 2 slides. We do winter in Canada, and we already have an Okanagan which is real good quality, but just wonder if anyone has experience with a Carriage. It’s the Compass C2

I remember Carriage as being a very high-quality rig, but they went out of business if I recall right. Might be a good buy if the price is right.
-
I heard same as Ray. I think another company bought them and are making them. Don’t know about the quality you would have to do some research on them.
-
Thank you, we have decided to go ahead with it and bought the Carriage. It’s only a couple feet longer, but hey, in RV Life, every inch matters!

Hello Peter & Suzanne, I used to live in NB. Your Rockwood, looks like a real nice unit.

Hi Bob and Nancy, you can also use thin foam board to place under, it you get the one without the foil on one side, it will actually breathe better. We find that if the temps stay above 6 below C, it’s much better. But when it drops below that to 7 below and 13 below, the moisture shows up, even with the dehumidifier running. Good Luck, we ar…[Read more]

You are quite welcome. This was early in the morning, just as the sun was coming around through the trees.

Hi Ray,
You are so right. We pull the mattress away from the wall, and insert a sun shade meant for vehicles, in between wall and mattress and also under, between mattress and plywood storage area.
We do have a fan in the bathroom and over the stove, but the other vents are just vents. Our AC/Furnace has the capability to run only the fan a…[Read more]

We wonder if using the propane oven is causing any condensation issues for anyone? It looks like whenever we use it, for a roast or ribs, that say take 2-3 hours on low, the place gathers moisture more than normal.
We stay on top of moisture, by cracking a window, and running our fan a couple times a day. We also use the black bowls with…[Read more]

Fifth wheels are not ideal for 4×4 roads that’s for sure!
Tail drag will be a fact of life, our 30 footer drags occasionally even in city streets, you may want to attach some caster wheels back there.
The biggest problem will be the bed rail clearance, since a 4×4 truck sits so high, you may have to lift the trailer up off the axles to gain more…[Read more]
Hi Ray, Thanks for the info. We went with a 27′, and shocks, so hoping we can boondocks without too much trouble. Air bags, sound like a great option. Love following your boon docking journey….drooling!
