RV Newbies 3 months, 1 week ago · updated 3 months, 1 week agoWe are planning a trip west of us (we are in Ohio) for the month of September. Our first stop would be Chicago if it is possible to locate a campground within a reasonable drive of the “L” or the City. Our research tells us there is nothing closer than an hour away. Does anyone have any suggestions for us?

Hi Trip and Lisa,
We have an ’07 Tiffin Allegro 34 ft motor home. His surgery three years ago was due to sciatica and disc issues. All was good until this trip. Its apparent we overdid it on the driving. As soon as we can get to a truck stop we will look at these air seats and these beaded seats. I believe he could use one in our cars too. I…[Read more] -

I de believe we did nearly everything wrong when traveling to the west this past winter. We didn’t stop often enough, didn’t spend time walking when we did stop and spent too many days in a row driving. All of the suggestions everyone has offered will now be in the works. Hubby has been to the doctor and has started his first bout of phy…[Read more]

Having traveled for 3 months in our RV seemed to create some unusual issues for my husband’s back. At first he noticed some pain and as each week came and went, the pain got worse and he began having issues walking and sleeping and even driving. Our son was telling us that he had talked to numerous truckers who said they had to replace their t…[Read more]

We just returned from our first long trip in our RV. We took along a mini electric vacuum which we discovered didn’t do the job. We are now in the market for another sweeper that will do the carpet and be small enough to sweep around the bed and even have a removeable hand-held part to do the floors around the gas pedal, etc. What sort of su…[Read more]

@raytronx I’ve not been on this site for a while now but are hoping to get out of here next week. Got up this morning to three inches of snow..ugh….I remember quite a while ago you had a map posted where everyone could show where they were and I cannot seem to locate that area of the website. Can you help?

Montreal was so good! We stayed at at KOA 20 miles south of the city and drove our toad in every day to see the sights. We were going to head for PEI but decided to go via Quebec for a few hours. The signs were too difficult to follow and the construction and traffic was terrible. We are in PEI now and will leave for Nova Scotia in the…[Read more]

Hi Jan, we haven’t made it to Arizona yet, starting our full-time adventure Jan or Feb next year. Noticed no one has responded, lots of ideas on boondocking group, of course ray has tons of posts of where they have stayed. Do you belong to any camping groups like coast to coast or thousand trails for RV parks? Hope you find what your looking for.
-
Thank you for your reply. We returned home this evening and will park ourselves until January. Lots of research to do for getting out of ohio for a few months. I do not belong to any camping groups yet and had not heard of the two you mentioned. Do you belong to either or both of them?

Popular SW desert snowbird spots for the middle of winter are Yuma, Quartzsite, Lake Havasu, Tucson, Phoenix, also parts of Southern California like the Palm Springs area.
Some folks like certain areas of Arizona better than others, we tend to move around and visit more rural areas looking for a natural desert feel. There are many nice state parks…[Read more]-

Hi Jan, we belong for RPI and coast to coast, allot of RPI parks are thousand trails parks. Thousand seems to have a pretty good deal, they sell by region, like northwest & ? Checks then out online. I know their are members here who know allot about it. Have fun!
@janbarton What was the Montreal KOA like? Was the language all French or were there people who spoke & understood English? You mentioned signs, you mean the street signs. Were they all in French or French then English? Would you go back to Quebec?

Hi Lauren,
The Montreal koa was quite nice. Level spots, clean And quiet. They had good wifi and it is only a
About 20 minutes from downtown Montreal. The ladies at the front desk were English and very helpful with directionsWe found everyone spoke English all the places we went. The street signs were English and French

Having butterflies this early morning as my mind wraps itself around leaving in a few days for a month long trip to Montreal, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia before returning to the states. Not having had an RV in nearly 25 years is almost like doing it for the first time again.

We just got back from a run to the east coast. They say you take the ferry from NS to PEI no charge and then take the bridge from PEI to NB it will be have the coast. No charge to get on only to get off. Drove around Montreal didn’t go into the city. You will get there and the fall colours should be good as they were starting to change when we…[Read more]

Sometime during our upcoming trip we plan on trying to get as close as to New York City as we can so we can visit for a few days.. I have tried to do hours of research on my own but continue to be uncertain of how to put our plan in place. Have any of you fellow campers tried this?

I am so very sorry to have not responded to the request for friendships and even as I type now, I’m not sure how to wiggle my way around this website.
I will post that we are very umhappy campers at the moment. In May we purchased a 2007 Tiffin Allegro and the first week we had it, we noticed that the generator would only stay on for 3 to 10…[Read more]

We recently stayed at a Illinois state park, Illinois beach state park, northern border. Road the metra from a station near Zion, IL to the union station in downtown Chicago and then got on the L to Wrigley Field. Super easy. Did all the research online.
Thank you so much for the great suggestion Marsha & Dewey. I have checked it out and think it will work for us.
Hope you have a great trip. There are other state campground north of Chicago that we wanted to stay at, but no availability. You will probably find more availability now that school has started.
