DD16 (newly and not licensed) and I full-time travel and there was a debilitating injury that occurred…. severely dislocating my wrist, rupture scapholunate ligament that controls all the hand bones and location of hand on arm, fractured radius and ulna at wrist on 12/30/14 when teen daughter looked right and turned her bike left into mine. We w…

$75 gas valve/thermostat is much better than $400+ replacement of water heater, with any type system. Now, this new valve is working beautifully for a lot cheaper. ;)
@cbreaze Hows the hot water heater?

There are plumbers at Oregon Inlet CG and I called upon them ($40 to the guy). Those threads were petrified. OK, it is done but I WOULD like the burner vent to close more. Now it is about 1/2 open, instead of 1/4 open. With the minute difference in thermostat/gas valve design, it doesn’t allow the tube to be right up against the gas opening un…[Read more]

David, thanks for that thorough response! I CAN do this! I think the water heater is original…..13 yrs old. I have drained and cleaned out before – remarkably little build-up. Thermostat is waiting for me general delivery and am heading to the post office in a few. Will grab the tool and tape. Looking forward to a warm shower! (Only cold…[Read more]

I have a propane water heater – Atwood 6 gal – that the pilot light will not stay on when turning knob to ‘ON’. I have already replaced the thermocouple, to no avail. Now, I have a gas valve/thermostat being delivered Monday.
Any advice for how to safely change out the gas valve? I know I will need to cut off propane and, probably a fuse to p…[Read more]

Thank you Ray for the informative response. I watched a youtube official video from the BB company and heard them say to continue annual servicing! Guess that might be because they are designed for in and out of water for boat in/out, not rv’s going down a usually dry road.
Since we have the small trailer, could we go to a car place? Or would…[Read more]

Please teach me…. I have a 23 ft ultra-lite TT with 2 axles. I have learned I have 4 inside bearings and 4 outside bearings. In the 2 yrs and 4 months we have owned this trailer and been on the road, we have only had them serviced once. We travel full-time, going about 20k/yr.
How often is best to grease bearings?

@cbreaze ,Ray told me you might use a cpap. Was wondering how you power it when you are boondocking?

Originally, I did have a dedicated Class 27 (105 amps or so) marine deep cycle and a plug in charger for it. I have the ResMed cpap and used about 2-3 amps/hr. I would charge it every other night, sometimes in bathrooms at rest areas, sometimes with the inverter in my truck! My travel battery was a crappy class 24, so kept them seperate. Now,…[Read more]

At the beginning, the travel TRAILER battery was crappy and a class 24.
-
-
My Class C came with a battery plug in the bedroom so I use that outlet along with the “Resmed” inverter. When dry camping I can go 3 nights before I have used up all the power in the coach batteries.
-
Whats a resmed inverter?
-
ResMed is the brand of Cpap and converter. I bought mine when I got my Cpap. I have a DC/DC converter24V/90W which is the recommend one for my machine
-
-
You never want to use up all the power!
What brand cpap do you have, Rush?
-
Rush, I’ve got your number and will call you this evening. What time zone are you in? Don’t call later than what time? (I’m a night owl!

OK, so we were driving until 11:30 pm and didn’t call you……

LAst week when we went to taos nm i used my cpap first time off the batterys. I have a class a running 4 6 volt batteries. Some of the outlets in the coach are powered by the batteries and i am lucky to have one outlet by the bed thats this way. I ran my cpap all night got up next morning to check batteries and there was plenty of battery power…[Read more]

(I happen to be an RN, btw, in addition to full-time traveling.) Power usage varies greatly, dependent upon pressure setting, EPR, humidifier and it’s settings. According to my brand, Resmed, my settings (which I tamper with!lol) can run between 1-5.5 amps/hr. Humidification and climate control tubing are the BIG variables.

Ray replied to the topic Welcome to Ask for Help in the forum Ask for Help 1 year ago
@lolaandrush if the cpap needs AC power to run then you’ll need a inverter to take your battery power and convert it from DC power into AC power when dry camping (camping without hookups). Depending on how many watts the cpap uses will determine how large of an inverter you’ll need and how many batteries for energy storage. With the extra energy…[Read more]

I think we will head down to Phoenix area to get to warm/hot weather!! We are in Sedona, AZ enjoying the little cold snap. Will research for NE of Phoenix FREE boondocking. Also, will go check out this Boondocking group for possible info.

I spent a week at Lost Dutchman State Park in Apache Junction near Phoenix. Absolutely gorgeous! I got on the last week of the summer season in October and had a $125/week rate. It’s right across the highway from Goldfield ghost town and if you want a little wild West flavor, it’s a fun place to be!

Steve, it just takes research and learning. I knew absolutely nothing about rv’s when my DD15 and I started out 18 months ago. Now, I am really liking helping others get set up with affordable & self install solar!
Read the specs for the panels. GoPower? Super expensive because of advertising budget!…[Read more]

That’s the beauty of this lifestyle Cindi. Mostly everyone is friendly and helpful. Networking with others, we learn from each other’s mistakes and successes.
Ray, you’re using these heaters, right? We love ours but have to be very careful cuz of our critter’s tails in small TT. Question: Do you use the small propane bottles, or do you have the hose to connect to tank?
Free shipping on Amazon, too.
Excellent tech support!

Wow. that’s awful. Sounds like it would be painful. You just never know when something out of the blue will happen. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
