I watched a great youtube by RV Geeks on using pop rivets.
I am going to try this with a light weight shelf in the bathroom for towels to sit on. Wish me luck!

We have added, (after building), a wonderful new bed to our bunkroom! Our son has been sleeping on the J-Cube mattress right on the floor of the slide for the past year of living in and out of the RV. We found that being on Vancouver Island over the chilly, windy, wet months and him being right on the floor caused mould to grow under the mattress…[Read more]

It has been quite a week for us. We’ve been staying full-time at the Salmon Point RV park between Campbell River and Courtenay, BC, since mid November. A very nice site. They allow pets, dogs on leash, and cats. We have 2 of each. Our cats have always been indoor/outdoor cats until moved into the RV. Oliver, who is our huge black long hair boy,…[Read more]

Roger and Sue…our 2 slides have awnings of their own which do help with the debris when bringing them in. We’ll be here for another 2 months at least and will give them a good check before we roll them back in to move. Bob and Nancy… so far, so good! We had what turned out to be a not 1/2 bad day here. It blew and poured all night and all…[Read more]

As I sit here this morning in the TT listening to the crazy wind outside I can’t even imagine leaving the awning out! The 2 TT with awnings that are closed in were fine last night on my ‘dog walk’, and even the one without, but it does have a slide right beside it which may be doing something to protect it. OR..it may have blown off in the…[Read more]

Just posted this recipe to my blog and thought I’d share it here too as I made it in the TT yesterday. These are delicious!

We’re set up on Vancouver Island for the winter and have been enjoying a variety of Island weather so far. This morning there is a weather warning for high winds and tons of rain for the next few days. As we are staying in an oceanside park we are getting good dose of the wind. I keep hearing fircones hit the trailer roof and sides! We have…[Read more]

Thanks for all the wise words! I’ll be investigating further before I start poking any holes in the trailer!
Sue at the Little Shack replied to the topic Best Gas Prices in the forum Frugal RVing 1 year, 7 months ago
We use a phone app called Gas Buddy. It lets you see the gas or diesel prices in the area you are in or you can enter another city so you can decide to wait for a better price further along. It is user updated, so you can enter prices you see at stations. There is some kind of points reward for updating prices, but I haven’t really got into that…[Read more]

I am wanting to add some wall shelves to the TT. They would need to be screwed in. Is there a right way to attach them? Can I use wall anchors?

We have just begun our full-time life. The first thing we did after setting up in our ‘park of the month’ was go out and buy a dehumidifier. With 3 humans, and 4 critters, we were creating a lot of humidity. It was also extra cold the first couple of days, which made it even worse. We are set up on Vancouver Island at the Salmon Point RV Park…[Read more]

It is very pretty. The gardens are immaculate, which at the time of year is amazing!

Sounds great! We’ll need photos. We hope to be there soon. Enjoy your new life.

I’ll post some photos soon, Phil!

Great! Also, how’s the weather up there?
We left the high teens (F) in Indiana a few days ago and arrived back on our “sailing RV” near Cancun a few hours ago where it is 82. Woo hoo!!!
Our son in Seattle doesn’t know it yet, but his home will become our base when we get our real RV next summer. Can’t wait to explore BC!

Hi Phil! We have all kinds of weather since arriving. It was extremely cold here the first few days and took a few days for the trailer to warm up right through. We were using 3 plug ins and the furnace! After the cold weather broke, we got a day of wind and rain (typical Island weather). We’ve been blessed with 3 days of gorgeous sunny weather…[Read more]

What kind of dehumidifier did you get that’s working so great?
I’m looking at getting one too, but the choices are staggering…-
It is a Haier brand one, Norma. Model # is DM32M-TC. It has a container to catch the water as well as can be set up with a hose to drain continuously. At the moment we have it in the living area just sitting on the floor by the dinette. It makes about the same amount of noise running as our furnace does. It turns on and off as needed, and you can…[Read more]

Thanks for that, @susanosborn! I’ve never heard of one that let you pick your humidity level. I’ll definitely check that one out!!

Salmon Point is a nice place, great beaches nearby. We looked at it for July August last summer but the rates were so high 1200 a month plus taxes we ended up at Thunderbird in Campbell River for 900. Also the boat moorage was much cheaper there. What are the off season rates like?
-
Ray, we paid just over $500 for the month, including taxes. They say they normally charge for dogs and kids in the peak season, but we didn’t have to at this time of year. They do have an outdoor pool, hot tub and an ‘adult’ rec hall with a fireplace, big screen tv and pool table, but I don’t think that’s worth the extra $300 a month for the busy…[Read more]

Hi Bob and Nancy…I think my duvet is too big. I’m going to see about trading it with one from home and see if that works better. It doesn’t help when DH is a cover hog though…the extra width comes in handy then. lol!

Hi Margo….I think I must be one of those OCD bed people. I can’t stand the bed not being made. I just wish I could get my DH to stay off of it during the day. It’s his go-to place for everything. I think part of the problem is because we are wintering in BC, and need the extra warmth, the duvet is extra thick. It just makes for extra ‘stuff’…[Read more]

This may seem hokey…but my biggest challenge so far full timing is making the bed!! Who’duh thunk! Our bed is pretty typical (I think). Front of the trailer (we have a travel trailer), queen sized, cupboards over head of bed and down sides with bedside tables on each side. No slides. Bed lifts up with storage underneath. I have a duvet, s…[Read more]

Glad to hear things ended positive for you. Last year our neighbor lost her little dog. Elderly lady she is and was real upset. Her son kept coming by asking if we saw her dog. Wife and I help looked for it also. two days later he said we found the dog. The dog got under her recliner and she sat up and closed the recliner locking the dog…[Read more]
