I am wanting to add some wall shelves to the TT. They would need to be screwed in. Is there a right way to attach them? Can I use wall anchors?

That would be a question Eddie & Aliene could answer.  I would think you would want to find the wall studs.  The wall material in the trailer is pretty thin.

That’s a tough one. Every RV is built a little different but they usually have very thin walls and not much space behind them. Usually only 2 inches vs a house which had 4 inches or more.

In our Cougar I’ve added some hooks here and there with screws into the wall materiel and they have held pretty well, but I wouldn’t trust just a screw for shelving, unless I knew for sure I could locate a stud.

For shelving you likely need something more than just a screw to spread the weight out  unless you can find the studs which may be wood or aluminium.

This type of butterfly wall anchor looks pretty good to me – http://www.toggler.com/products/plastic-toggle/installation.php

The other concern with RV walls is whether there is an electrical wire or plumbing pipe behind it.

Let us know how you make out.

You might want to google “travel trailer wall construction” to get some ideas of how the walls are done.  Be surprised as how they are so different for S & B houses.  Add your trailers make for more.   Good luck.

Thanks for all the wise words!  I’ll be investigating further before I start poking any holes in the trailer!

    Sue,

Please keep us posted as to how you make out with the shelving as we also wonder about how to hang stuff in our RV and worry that whether it will be strong enough.   Thanks

I’ve used hollow wall fasteners in my old class C to mount a microwave shelf, and in my trailer to mount the inverter, charge controller and pantry.

You’ll want the really short ones.

    Sue,

I’m also really interested in how it works out for q. I don’t have much wall space, but could really use some extra storage shelves for small items.

    Good luck.

You may want to have a look at a mod I did on my trailer.

I watched a great youtube by RV Geeks on using pop rivets.

I am going to try this with a light weight shelf in the bathroom for towels to sit on. Wish me luck!

    Sue
