Folks I need advice, my FW coachman royal deluxe with Lippert 0115 pin box is going to hit my F350 cab in even marginal turns and that’s with it in the maneuver mode. What is the best fix? The pin hitch the RV dealer sold me assured me this was all I needed at the time of purchase. The truck has the factory installed goose neck and pin hitch option. I like the auto sliders for the replacement but would value advice from you all, I even considered changing from king pin to goose ball to free up bed space but worry about the ride. Please help.

Hi, Mike:  I recently bought and installed a B&W Model 3400 slider hitch and it may be what you’re looking for.  It installs over Ford’s factory-installed under-the-bed gooseneck hitch and gives you an extra 12″ of space when it’s in “maneuver” mode.  It’s automatic in the sense that you only get out of the truck once to move the lever that puts it into maneuver mode.  I bought it with free shipping from http://www.etrailer.com and they seem to be a good source.

The RV we’re buying is a Keystone Montana High Country that has the tapered front, so the slide might be overkill for us, but I really don’t want to take a chance of having to drive around with a bashed truck cab and a matching bashed RV.  The humiliation would be too much to bear.

If you have questions about the hitch, feel free to call me at 317-366-808 three.  We’re right next door in Indiana.  Best wishes,

    Phil

We went with Pull-Rite Super Glide.  We love it.  It does exactly what it’s supposed to do in a tight turn, automatically backs itself away from your truck.  We’ve had it in some pretty tight places and it performs lie a champion.   Ironically enough, we have it in the shop right now because we’re having trouble with the hitch and unhitch mechanism.  The damn thing won’t always let us unhook from the trailer, it freezes up to the hitch pin.  I’m sure it’s just an adjustment issue, but it’s been a pain.  I’ll let you know what the dealer says and how it works from here on out.

We're occasional RVers for now, but that's all going to change when I retire in a little over a year.

Mike,  Just purchased a F250 to tow our new Montana FW.  Dealer has recommended a new style hitch by Andersen Hitches they call the Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection.  Weighs only 70 lbs, is a Pyramid frame that connects to the Ford Gooseneck mount and gives an 8″ offset.  Second ball on top of the mount that locks into a lock box you fit on the hitch pin.  Might want to check this one out at Andersenhitches.com, only $599.oo steel frame/$699 for aluminum, rated for 24,000 lbs.  I am still checking options myself but this looks interesting!

    Doug
