Could use some advice-
We plan on travelling to California this summer. We’ve read that all RV’s over 40ft require a CDL to be driven legally. Our rig is roughly 32ft but we will be towing a pick up truck behind it. How do we get away with it!? -

@happierhomeless Would love to tour your bus sometime! Looks like you guys are rockin it!

A few of the inside of our bus. These are photos are from when the bus was still in progress. Ben was able to complete this project in less than 2 months – amazing! Complete with oven/stove, refrigerator, sink, wood stove, and groover. I so love the kitchen/counters!!

Lookit all that wood. I LOVE that!!!
-
COOL! But what is a “groover”?
-
Thanks! Oops my mistake. It’s a self-contained toilet.
-
Hmmmmm….my imagination is running wild with ideas of how they came up with THAT name. lol.
-
Wicked job! Did that stove come red or did you paint it?
-
It’s factory paint out of a 60s pull behind. We were lucky enough to find all recycled appliances. Money saver!!
-
Very nice. Yes, the counters are great!

Hi all! New to this community and excited to share with you bits about our bus life! Ben and friends remodeled the inside into a comfortable cabin-esque camper for us to live freely and travel happily with our 2 cats and a dog. We spent 6 months living in it last year and are excited to get back to it within the next month. We’re now in the…

Hi Guys, welcome to RVHH.
My wife and I are nearing 4 years full time now. Started as a 1 year RVing sabbatical trip from our regular lives and businesses but we never went back. Loved it too much. -
Thanks guys! I’ve just posted a couple photos of the inside. I’m just now realizing how few pictures we have of it. Sadly! I suppose I don’t take as many of the inside now that it has that whole lived-in mess thing going on :]
-
Thanks Ray!! Love this site, what a neat idea. I actually came across your blog first which led me here! Can’t beat taking off from real life. We may never return either :]

Hi guys! Meet Sheba – our wonderful black lab mix who lives with us in our school bus with our 2 cats – Bandit and Arlo, they’re brothers. This photo of Sheba was taken while boondocking in Moab, UT. We all can’t wait to go back!!

Doesn’t sound right to me or thousands and thousands of snowbirds are breaking the law. Where did you read that, I’m 45 feet so would like to know.
maybe they mean just the RV length?
Found this – http://www.woodalls.com/articledetails.aspx?articleID=1195129#CA
CALIFORNIA: Maximum RV width 102 in.; maximum motorhome length 40 ft.(45 ft. on some highways); maximum trailer length 40 ft.; maximum RV height 14 ft.; maximum combined length for two-vehicle combination, 65 ft. Riding is allowed in truck campers if passengers are…[Read more]
This includes air brake equipped vehicles at this length?
“This includes air brake equipped vehicles at this length?”
Yes it does. You do not need a cdl to travel in ca. Just watch your speed. Speed limit is 55mph on the interstate.
Good information…I’d wondered about pulling something behind, as well…puts me over 40′ too. And now I know…Thanks for the great question Kelsey & Ben!!
