We’re getting ready to head back north (to Washington State) at the end of the month. Our last Arizona Adventure was to Alamo Lake State Park where we thoroughly enjoyed the hiking and the burros.

The Mobile RV guy (Vic) is here (staying in the Foothills, Yuma AZ) and told us we need a new motor for our front landing gears. Bummer! Sure hope we get the new one here and installed before March 1st as that’s when we plan to hit the road for the month.

After reading about the boondocking experiences and seeing the wonderful pictures posted to the website, we’ve decided to take the last month of our snow bird adventure (March) and do some more exploring before heading back to Washington State. I think our first trip will be to Monument Valley, traveling through Flagstaff to Page AZ and beyond.…[Read more]

You have to boondock at Goosenecks state park! – http://stateparks.utah.gov/park/goosenecks-state-park

-
Wow! That’s an awesome view.
-
I think we could sit there for hours!! Just AWESOME!
-
Do I have to get THAT close to the edge????

If you head to Page AZ, its worth seeing Marble Canyon which is a few miles southwest of town. Go across the Colorado, turn right and drive five miles and you’ll be at mile marker 0 to the Grand Canyon. Jump out and walk down to the Colorado River. Beautiful colors thru out the area. If the weather permits, seeing the Antelope Canyons is a…[Read more]

All of this western landscape is so foreign to us! We can’t wait to be there and experience it in person! Thank you for the directions and for all the photos that are posted as they keep the dream alive!!!

Thanks! We’ve included Gooseneck in our travels so will make sure we include these areas.

We headed north of Yuma today to Picacho State Recreation Area on the Colorado River. It was a nice drive even though most of the road is gravel and can be narrow in places. While doing a short hike around the area, we encountered three adult burros and one young’un, which was the highlight of my day as I’ve been waiting to see the wild burros…

Oh, libations go without saying.
Has anyone dealt with shower stall walls turning yellow from the sun? Our 5th wheel has a skylight which I’ve covered with a sun shade and noticed yesterday the yellowing.

Oh, and one essential item is a small crockpot, which allows me to throw a few things together before heading out for hiking and such. ![]()

We will have been living in our 5th wheel for a year come this May and have discovered that we don’t need nearly what we think we need. Doing with just the essentials has not been as much of a challenge as we first thought and I’ve even cleaned out my closet and cupboards twice, removing even more “stuff” that we don’t use. Your lists pretty m…[Read more]
Last week had the mobile mechanic come out to our spot in the Foothills (Yuma) to check the brakes on the RV. Good thing as they were “shot” so to speak. First time as snow birds and love the services available to RVers, from road service to washing and waxing. Also, really enjoy using the barbeque to “roast” our dinners. We had chicken…[Read more]

Sounds like you are settling right in there.
Glad you caught the brakes in time. Led’s are great. Last year at Quartzsite we picked up these Real Wax Flameless LED Candles
Use them all the time when boondocking. We spread them around the rig and watch a show or too on our little laptop. Makes the rig real cozy with nice soft light.-
Thanks, Ray, or the link. It’s something I plan to check out very soon. I’ve been looking for something to “brighten” up the outside and these lights just might fit the bill.

You guys are getting way to romantic out there in the dessert

Gorgeous country, great photos, looks like a nice hike. Do you know if the allow leashed dogs on the trails there?
-
Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed. The Sabino Canyon hike to 7 Falls is in the wilderness area. And, there is a big horn sheep management area on the Romero Pools and dogs are forbidden.

Changed our travel plans. Decided to return to Arizona and warmer weather. Currently, we’re at Catalina State Park in Tucson and will be doing some hiking. Some rain and wind in the forecast but still warmer than Texas. ![]()

The weather has been wonderful. I’m back to shorts and flip flops.

Some rain is in the forecast but still warm. -
Norma, you’re lucky. As I write this our outdoor temp is 9.7 with a 30 mph wind!!
-
That’s Fahrenheit!

Only got down to 18 last night. Water slowed, but didn’t stop… Supposedly, we’ll be in the 60’s next week and I can get some pipe insulation done! @bobandnancy, where are you guys?

Currently, camping at Catalina State Park in Tucson, AZ.

Hows the weather you two?
-
It is so warm….in the low 70’s. Went to Sabino Canyon in the Coronado National Forest and hiked the 7 Falls Trail. It was an easy to moderate hike up Bear Canyon and it was absolutely beautiful. Will be checking out Saguaro National Park West tomorrow and taking a hike, if it doesn’t rain.
-
@7-3ford Thanks for the info on the Montana website. Have successfully registered. We will be in Texas during the January event and will be back in Yuma first of February for the rest of the winter.

The Chevy brings back memories.

My parents had one maroon and white. In 1972 us three kids with Mom and Dad and two dogs piled in and did a 8000 mile road trip around the western half of the US/Canada, tenting almost the whole way. haha man what people did back then. Seat belts? What seat belts? We were piled on top of clothes and sleeping…[Read more] -
When Mike and I got married in 1998, my Dad, who is a Chevy man, sold the 56 to him for a very good price. So, he not only got me, he got another “Baby”. Ha ha.
Lived in Rio Rancho NM until April 2014 when we moved back to Washington State (north eastern part – Omak/Okanogan area). Since winters can be dark and dreary as well as cold, we decided to try out Yuma AZ (Foothills) for the winter. Love it as we can walk 4-6 miles every day, ride our bike for miles, and play pinochle with my folks. Great…[Read more]

Hi Guys,
Welcome to RVHH.
I’m from Richland WA. Started south on Dec 1st and am currently at my kids in Long Beach, CA. I’m planning to check out the dentists across the border from Yuma but what caught my eye was your comment on riding bikes. I’m touring the country in search of places to ride such as “rail trails”. I’d appreciate any biking…[Read more]
