Has anyone had problems with theft, or other security issues while camping?

Nothing really to speak of in three years, had a small gas can lifted from the truck bed that’s about it for theft. I find RV parks are a very safe place, much safer that your average suburb. We look out for each other. Someone that doesn’t belong usually stands out like a sore thumb. Best to use your natural judgement, if it feels wrong in a place then just move on, our houses have wheels. :)

Parks near bigger cities tend to have more problems.

No problem with campgrounds, I don’t feel as secure at wal marts cracker barrels ect. But still no problems.  I have self defense items if ever needed, hope its never. First line of defense 911 call. When in overnight stays on road I secure door with a tie down strap on inside, better than locks on door. Will not stay anywhere that looks bad, only stay in walmarts ect if traveling late and sleeping and going early in morning. This is because working still and only so much vacation time, when retired will plan on driving less and being where we want by three in afternoon.

Nancy and I have been camping since 1983. Everything from tents to VW bus, to rental Class A to our own Class C’s. Have stayed at various campgrounds from Maine to Florida and as far west as Kentucky. At some out of the way places we pull in, hook up electric and lock the doors until early morning when we leave, many times never seeing another human being, We have never had any theft or trouble of any kind. As Ray said we campers tend to stick together and protect one another. Have never stayed at a Walmart. Stayed overnight at a Flying J where there was some shady business happening in the parking lot but we didn’t feel threatened at all and really enjoyed the Cinnabon’s in the morning!
