When we bought our new Cougar 25 RLSWE trailer last year the dealer sold us on the idea that we would have to have something called a Duratian Sealant/Finish on it.  I don’t remember the price, but it was a quite expensive add-on.  The RV dealer told us that it was a must, to keep it from fading.  And, they said that we wouldn’t have to ever wax the vehicle.  Has anyone else had this type of finish put on their RV?  Does it work or did I get sold a bill of goods?

We're occasional RVers for now, but that's all going to change when I retire in a little over a year.

We bought something called Diamond Kote on our new RV. Not sure if it did anything, our rigs finish is still excellent, no fading after three years, but I do wax it twice a year with good quality wax, so who really knows.   I think they make a pretty good mark up, if buying again I think I would learn how to do it myself or have a third party apply it, I bet it would be a lot cheaper than dealer rates.

You would think if it is that great why wouldn’t the OEM just apply it at the factory?

The last cougar we bought we were offered Diamond Kote paint protectant and a fabric protector for the furniture.  These products have huge profit margins for the dealer.  We saved our money and bought a can of Scotch Guard and waxed the RV twice a year.  We just bought a Mountaineer and were made the same offer by a different dealer and declined.  I’m retired and have more time than money so I’ll be spending a couple of days each year waxing the new RV.

Diamond coat….. Sounds like what we had put on the dodge. My son sells cars and he says the warranty’s are the gravy! Oh well.
