Dear Those Who Are in Colder Climes Than Me:
It is 15 here this morning.  RealFeel 4.  My water has frozen.  I don’t want to go out there and try to thaw it.  I do not own Eskimo clothes.  A hoodie here is considered your Eskimo clothes.

Yes, I’m going to whine about it.

    Love,

    Norma, Bock, and Lurch

Hi Norma, sorry your frozen up. Can you use your fresh water tank and pump? Make sure not to leave your tank valves for gray water open, only dump full tanks to prevent frozen valves and the dreaded “Poopcycle”!!!!

We are with you, soon to head to warmer climate. Good luck and ask any questions if you need help, cold weather sucks below 25-F.

    Happy “Frozen” Trails!!!

I think your heat overshot Wyoming, it’s 0.0 C (32 F) here! It’s supposed to plunge by the weekend.

lol, Eddie, you happen to be the reason I just logged on.  I have running water inside the rig and outside the rig.  The problem is the dreaded petcock between the two systems.  I have a heat tape outside and tons of insulation inside.  How on earth do you keep the inbetween from freezing?

    All valves closed.  Aye-aye, Capitan!!

PS. I went to Dollar General and bought water.  Hello, my name is Norma and I’m a wuss.

ooo, dang, SORRY, Roger!  If anyone was going to get my Texas heat it’d be RVHHers!  I wonder where it went?  Maybe it pooped out before it got there…there wasn’t much!  We’re supposed to have 30’s the rest of the week, 40’s by weekend and 60’s next week.  I’ll try to scoop you up some then!

Hi Norma! We are hauling our water 1/8 mile in with our “Boondocking Tank”. So our water is in our fresh water tank and stays above freezing being in the underbelly of the rig.

Very glad you are thawed out!

    Happy Trails!!!

    Dang, Eddie…hauling water sucks.

It’s good to HAVE water, though…

    Stay warm, you guys!

Can you get pile lined hoodies in Texas? They sell them in the stores here!

Why, yes, you can!  They’re called Teddybear hoodies here and I got a new one for my birthday in September.  Been using it alot these last few days, lol!

Found the froze spot.  Not the outside hose (that I worked so long and hard on, thank goodness).  Not the petcock either.  Lines frozen down by the black/gray valves, I think the black tank cleanout line contributed.  After poking around down there, I found none of the lines are insulated.

I suppose if I’d run the furnace, then I wouldn’t have had this trouble.  My and my dang propane aversion.  Crap! Next week we start moving back to the 60’s so I’ll just have to deal until then…  Unfortunately this includes the lines to/from the water pump, so a blow dryer is in my future.

[Thank you, Lord, for letting me learn so much about RV plumbing.  Amen.]

Norma, since you now know that is a weak area it might be a good place to have a wireless thermometer pickup to alert you if it gets close to a freeze up temp there. I keep one near my water input area where the piping is most exposed, just so I know if there may be an issue. They usually have a setting to show the lowest temp reached so I just check that and get a feel for when it is cold enough to worry. Luckily I don’t need it much. :)

Great idea, Ray.  I HAD the remote sensor to my Lacrosse in there, but evidently my clock and the sensor are at odds and it no longer works.  Time for a new one!!

    And tons of insulation!
