Horse back riding and camping sounds fun. We once road horses into the ocean in Jamaica it was great. Ray I was at Gettysburg last year and a family put on a display of all there finds in area where they had permission. I think it would be fun to look for rare coins or nuggets.
I was honestly was trying to think about what my hobbies are that would be compatible. Dancing??? Maybe if I find a campground that has planned a “hoot-a-nanny”. But we both really, really love travel and nature. Seeing things we’ve never seen before – is that a Hobby?- Nancy ![]()
Riding a horse sounds like a blast never mind adding the plus of the ocean side! I didn’t know they had an area in Gettysburg where you could use a metal detector.
I would said your adventures are a hobby Nancy. And I’m sure you do more than drive, stop, look around and sleep. But even if you drove to any destination and relaxed that is a great hobby :D
The speaker at Gettysburg has lived all his life there, you cant metal detect in most areas. But he knows where its legal,he sells metal detectors ,he is a stickler for rules and permission, he sells mine lab detectors. Yeah the horse riding out in deep water in Jamacia was great.
You folks need to try a favorite of mine — it’s called “geocaching.” Basically a high-tech Easter egg hunt, looking for hidden containers. You put them back where you found them so the next person can find it.
Look up http://www.geocaching.com — it’s free to play, free to sign up, but it’s far, far easier if you just download the app on your smartphone and use the built-in GPS.
It’ll take you places (some in your own backyard) that you never knew existed.
What a lot of great ideas!! I feel boring in comparison. I love to read, I knit and crochet some too, but only easy things like scarves or boot toppers. After reading all these hobbies I’m thinking of adding to my list! Now that I’m retired I should have time – right?!? I want to visit every state and see all the neat things each one has to offer – that’s my goal.

I always travel with my telescope for a peak at the heavens, a gold pan for the times when the fish aren’t biting. If I’m going to take a hike I might as well look for some minerals or fossils and a rock hammer and a chisel aren’t that heavy in a day pack.
We also enjoy the old cowboy bars out west. They are the best spots to find the local must see places and fantastic boondocking locations all for the cost of a beer. If nothing is there drive 50 miles to the next town and try there.
Sounds like fun Paul but I have no knowledge in the rock/mineral/fossil area. Maybe some day we will bump into each other and you can teach me a little bit ![]()
Paul I like your hobbies, If we met I would be asking if I could tag along, panning has always sounded interesting, also looking for minerals. Also like to learn more about skies, someday will probably check out some of each of those hobbies.
