Margaret and I discovered and  joined this wonderful group a few days ago and it seems that we should introduce ourselves a little.  We spend our summers in Greenwood, IN and our winter home (a/k/a our “RV” is a catamaran sailboat this is presentlty berthed on Isla Mueres, a small island a few miles offshore of Cancun.  I am 80% retired and Margaret is still pretty active as a commercial real estate broker here in Indiana.

Our plan is to sell our dirt home next spring, buy a fifth wheel and become boondocking, dry camping fulltimers in the summer months and return to the boat — which will always be somewhere warm — in the winter months.  We call it our “surf and turf” plan.  We hope to spend a lot of time out West (US and Canada) and take advantage of as many free camping spots as possible.

We know that have a lot to learn, but we hope that some of the lessons we have learned on the water will be transferable to life in an RV.  We will also be benefiting from the collective wisdom of the Happy Hour group.  Thanks for having us!

    Warm Welcome Phil &,

As you have been told this is a great big happy (sometimes borders on too happy)  family group of RV enthusiasts!  My wife and I own a Class C that we adore and can’t wait to be on the full time roster next year!  Your plan seems very sensible and exciting!  Nice to have you all come aboard!

Surf and Turf is my wife’s dream Phil. She loves to boat, has a little 17.5 foot Arima runabout at home on Vancouver Island and uses it all summer long. I’m not much of a boater but she is trying to convince me that we should get a live aboard for the summers. Welcome to the site. :)

James, Larry, Bob, Nancy, Ray, Marsha and Dewey (Wow!):

Thanks to all of you for your warm welcome and kind words.  Yes, you are all invited aboard our little ship at any time.  We look forward to getting to know everyone on here and picking your brains unmercifully since we do have a lot to learn about RV’s.  We’ve done a little camping – mostly tent – and have had limited experience with a popup and a rented motorhome several years ago.  Margaret and I are excited about getting a 5th wheel and decking it out for dry camping.  We hope that some of what we’ve learned by sailing will transfer to RVing.  One thing we have learned is that we can, in fact, co-exist for months at a time  in a space that’s slightly smaller than the swimming pool behind our dirt home, without killing one another.

We’re also sure that, like our fellow sailors, RVers are friendly, interesting people who don’t hesitate to drop everything and help one another when the need arises.

Thanks for having us and we look forward to seeing you down the road.

As the Northern cold blasts toward us the thought of Cancun is truly exciting!!   The thought of  James in a speedo doesn’t seem to excite me much though!! :shhh:

Makes me jealous, surf and turf would be nice, maybe we can hit the rainbow and the pot will fall in our truck. Welcome to the group too.

We are retired as of July 1st. 2015.

You have it good from both sides.  Camping and sailing.  Would love to see your sailboat.  Do you scuba?  Lots of fun.
