may be opening a can of worms but, what are some thoughts about an extended 5 year warranty for our (new) 2005 Arctic Fox – we have the policy to read over and 2 weeks to decide. Of course, those things are hard for non-lawyer types or insurance ppl to read! The company offering the policy is Protective Asset Protection (XtraRide) and they quoted a cost of $2995 for the 5 year policy. Thoughts and opinions welcome….January 11, 2015 at 3:06 pm #8432You want to see just what is covered and what is not. We had a extended warranty on our car and it paid for itself in 2 visits. If it covers alot, go with it. Good luck!
January 11, 2015 at 4:13 pm #8433Is that a typo 2005? or is it a 2015? If a 2005 then that is a great deal if they give complete coverage. If it is a 2015 I would shop around a bit. We paid $1500 for 6 years when our unit was new. Also ask what the deductible is and is the warranty transferable with sale of RV. Ours is 300 deductible and is transferable to a new owner.
Also really check out the company, many of them simply go under every few years and reappear to sell more warranties under a new name.
Cheers Ray
LoveYourRV.comJanuary 11, 2015 at 7:25 pm #8442Hi Ray – it is indeed a 2005 and we feel like we already got a great deal. When I said it’s new I only meant it’s new to us

Haven’t had much time yet to research the company, but that’s good advice. The whole thing sounds almost too good which can be scary! We purchased the RV from a local family dealer who’s been in the business since 1971 (seems like that counts for a lot). The deductible is $50 anywhere in the US or Canada and it seems to cover a lot too. it’s also able to transfer to new owner or we get reimbursed a certain amount determined by how long we have the trailer if less than 5 years.
Anyways, thanks for your comments and we’ll let you know what we determine!

January 11, 2015 at 7:28 pm #8443January 12, 2015 at 7:28 am #8456Based on our experience, extended warranties aren’t worth having, mind you that’s just our opinion. Most used RV’s haven’t been used very much. Most go out for a week or two or a few weekends a year and generally are not used as fulltime units. Our first unit we had for nine years and our second (2003 Kountry Star) for three years now and no major problems. We used both fulltime and traveled extensively. A suggestion, get a 30 or better a 90 day warranty from the dealer. Don’t take possession until you can put the unit into use. Run all of the appliances and activate the slides as much as possible as these will be your major expense if you need to repair or replace. Keep your money in an account for future repairs, do as much preventative maintenance as you can and things your not comfortable doing on your on have checked periodically by a reputable RV service center. If you do decide you are more comfortable with a warranty, read the fine print and then read it again.

January 14, 2015 at 10:50 pm #8485That seems high to me. I got a 7 year warranty that picked up after my 12 month warranty ended, and had $50.00 deductible. I paid $1,297.00 in Sept 2010 for my Montana. I got the policy through Wholesale Warranties.

I got a refund when my Montana was totaled for the unused part. Read the contract carefully, most are Exclusion Policy, so be sure you know what is not covered.
