Mice?

So many good tips everyone- I just hope we never have mice but will be taking all these tips into consideration for prevention.

Im still not sure what was in the engine of my 2011 F350  ,but could hear it chewing in the engine,now that’s some agrivating noise,could see insulation being eaten. What ever it was ate three servings of decon pellets. Glad it got rid of them. Could have been mice ,rats ,red squirrels,I don’t know ,but if I hadn’t heard them and addressed the problem,im sure hoses and wires were going to be next,you could hear them chewing from 3 ft away, as they chewed on the shroud.

Best overall mice repellent I have found is the Irish Spring Bar soap. Dryer sheets work but loose there power too quickly. The soap lasts 4 to 6 months. Just remember you have to open and take the bar out of the box to work best.

Seems to be a general opinion of most- do you just need one bar of soap placed in the RV anywhere? and where would be best spot?

I also find to keep bugs at bay- I drop “bay leaves” here and there.- In cupboards, in the furnace grates, etc.. I use them in my home too and keeps them out!

I have had good success in the war on mice [hopefully not jinxing myself, I’m not superstitious, it brings bad luck!] by using a combination of  Fresh Cab sachets [http://www.earthkind.com/products/featured-fresh-cab-rodent-repellent] distributed around the inside of the trailer, spraying the underside of the trailer with Mouse Free [ http://www.mouse-free.com/] and making tire rings out of 6″ high aluminum flashing secured with a small binder clip top & bottom. The mice can’t climb over the rings. Do not use the Mouse Free in side your car engine, it ate my windshield squirter hoses.

Just passing along something I read the other day, don’t have any personal experience. Supposedly Irish spring soap will keep the little buggers away.

Irish Spring bar soap (yes, remove from the box) and put one in every bin just for good measure.  I get it at the Dollar General and it’s dirt cheap insurance.

I’m thinking of making a thing like boats have for the mooring lines, not sure what you call it, only a mini one for my power cords.  I bet @philiprmcgovern can tell me what that’s called!

All I can think of for mooring lines is to slip an upside down funnel on each one, so the little devils can’t climb over them.  It would be tough to do with RV tires, but maybe some pet-friendly poison around each tire would do the job.

Bob & Nancy requested photos of the tire rings we use, so…..

Here are your photos.  My rings are actually 8″ high, not 6″ like I guessed from the house. I would make them as high as your rig will accommodate though. Mine fit at 8″.  I couldn’t get them behind the wheels any higher.  I am adding the Irish Spring to my repotoire as well. Hope this helps.

Backpacker, are you on Windows or Mac? If Windows hold down the control key and select/hightlight multiple photos, On Mac I believe it is the Command key, not sure..

Also if you rename the files before upload it becomes the caption.
