Replaced the ineffective exhaust fan in the bathroom with this Heng’s Vortex unit yesterday. Several of the reasons I chose this unit,

    1. Direct replacement of fan unit, didn’t have to change out the vent assembly or replace the existing vent cover, or disturb roof seal.

    2. With our falling Canadian dollar, fantastic fan prices are skyrocketing, $400 for the unit I would have prefered, plus $115 for for the vent cover. The Heng unit was $85 when I ordered it, price has jumped to $96 as of this morning.

    3. Supposed to be a 15 minute install, with the unit I received, no such luck.

The basic install went OK, fits as well as most RV plastic parts do. When I went to test run it, there was a horrible scraping noise from the motor, had to take it down again. Return it or fix it? Examination showed there was vertical play in the motor shaft, seems someone left out a shim in the motor during assembly. Dissect the motor, full ball bearing design, not bad quality for an inexpensive unit. made up a shim from a round lug electrical connector, reassemble, all good.

Finished install, and ran fan all day. Noise levels lower than original, noticeable draft from open windows, never had that before! Electrical consumption, 1.25 amps for the original fan, 2.2 amps for the Vortex fan.

Overall, I’m satisfied with this unit. It’s single speed like the original, and does an excellent job of removing air and odours from the trailer. Would have been nice if I hadn’t had to repair the motor, but I did pick up a lot of useful information in the process of repairing it. Hardware was satisfactory, even had the hex key included I needed to remove the fan blade from the motor.

Looks like a nice upgrade Roger.

I’ll likely do the same in our toilet room. It’s a tiny room with just the toilet so not worth a Fan-Tastic fan.

I did the same mod in the bathroom of our Cougar 297RKS. I hated the high pitched whine. I couldn’t justify the price for even the lowest level Fan-Tastic Fan. I didn’t run into any issues and it works great.
