So I installed this, this weekend.  Gives you the option to use RV park’s electricity to heat your water. You can still use propane, or both at once for faster recovery.

Some of the reviews said “Hot water in 20 minutes!”  I think they were blowing hot air!

However, the install was fairly simple and I got it right the first time, so it can’t be that difficult. :geek:

I have the original Atwood water heater in Lurch, so no anode rod.  Just pulled the drain cap and installed the heating element.  Put the thermostat on the tank, wired it up, pulled wires inside to hook to switch and plug and voila!  I’d say 2 hours.

Fired it up around 6 pm and by 8 I had hot water.  Didn’t really check it until then so I guess it IS possible I had hot water at 20 minutes…hahahaha…

The element only draws 400 watts, so I’m not expecting instantaneous recovery times.  Still, it’s just me and for 1 shower a day, plus dishes and hand washing, it should be enough.  I only have 30 amps to work with, so low wattage is great for me!

Norma these are great, my hot water heater in my  5er came with both electric and gas they work great. I use the electric only when Im hooked up to power. I would say they are right on the 20 min. If you need it faster use both gas and electric. definately saves on propane. Enjpy your new Mod.

Thanks you guys!!  Dan, I’m betting you got a 1400 watt electric element with your 5er.  Mine’s only 400 watts.  But once it got the water hot, seems to be holding its own just fine!   Ahhhh….nothing like a hot shower…!

I haven’t put any propane in the Lurch yet.  Just doing this a step at a time.  Solving noob problems I cause as I go.
