Here’s an overview of my installation process, all parts came from Canadian suppliers. We’ve had great success with this system, we have no power at our summer property, all power since last July has been solar supplied.

If you type “solar” into the search box on RV Happy Hour, you’ll get many pages of info!

Depends if you want to boondock, or just least amount to keep batterys topped off.My Lance truck camper from factory only offered 85 watts,I wanted about 200 kryocera, but they wouldn’t do it. Anyway I never have to worry much solar keeps 2 battery group 27 topped off when it sits. I have camped a couple days no hookups before batterys were drawn down to needing charge. Still if ever getting another camper will get 200 or more watts . But also getting a eu 3000 Honda so can always recharge from generator when boondocking.

There are a ton of variables in that question.

But I would say for an average two person rig who may use a computer a few hours and day and watch TV a few hours a day, and not use any high power items like microwaves then 200 watts of solar would be a minimum but 400 watts preferable, also you would want at least two batteries.

If you do all the install yourself you might keep cost under a $1000, have a technician do it and it may run up to $2000. Some folks also upgrade the charging system and inverter, plus monitoring hardware and that can raise the price over a thousand more.

First thing is to try and figure out your needs. Roger system looks very good. Nice bang for the buck. If you emulate his system I think you would be happy.

This site is from 2005, but the basics still hold true and he talks about doing your energy audit.  Tells you what to get and how to go about it so you know what you’ll need.  Probably want to skip past the fluorescents and go straight to LED, though…lol.  I’d follow Ray/Roger/Eddie’s recommendations on brands and types of components and check their diagrams and schematics.  This site is just a basic beginner type thing I found helpful.
