Recently a group of us went over to Progreso, Mexico for the annual Winter Texan appreciation day.  Even though it poured rain for most of the day we had a lot of fun.  The police were out in force to keep the old folks in line.  Actually kind of glad the police were there as we did run across some unsavory people who disappeared when the police came by.  The rain made it interesting to navigate the street but where there’s a bar there’s a way!

Made another trip out to South Padre Island to have a big feed of fresh shrimp – yummm – and to tour through the state park.  We had thought about doing a few days at the state park until we got out of the truck and were mugged by mosquitoes.  Ranger said it was unusual, likely due to all the rain last week.  Upshot was a stop at Wal-Mart to pick up Anti-itch spray.  Works great. There is a statue/shrine to lost-at-sea shrimpers in the park and nice facilities at the beach.  Lots of RV’s but we noticed there is no shade.

We have met lot’s of great people here and can honestly recommend the Kenwood RV Resort in La Feria.  There is some road noise so get a lot on the north end of the park. One of the very few parks with an indoor heated pool and hot tub which was very nice to have considering the weather this year.
