So I came across one of these site selling campground memberships I guess- like half price deals and such. Is anyone a member of these and what is your opinion.?

Here is one such one:

October 10, 2014 at 6:40 am #6558If we are forced to stay at a private campground Passport America member campgrounds are always our first choice and well worth it. It will pay for itself in just a couple of stops. Just make sure you check the campground P.A. limitations first. Some will indicate Sunday thru Thursday, no holiday or long weekends, one or two day limit etc. We have stayed at some very nice P.A.member campgrounds. Our second choice is Good Sam member campgrounds. We used to belong to KOA but they are way too expensive.

Have you been to Imperial Dam/ Yuma area/Quartz side? Do you travel with pets at all?
October 12, 2014 at 10:54 am #6586We have Passport America, good value if used only a few times. We also buy the annual Thousand Trails Zone Pass.

Works for us. It cost us $499 a year. On our pass you get 30 free nights and then it is 3 bucks a night for 30 amp. Rules are if we stay longer than 4 days we must stay out of the system for a week. Max continuous stay is 2 weeks.
We use it on the way south and back and always spend 2 or 3 weeks in the Palm Springs TT park, nice pool and under a bunch of date palms.
Some of the parks are a little run down and the popular ones get crowded but if used enough it really keeps the camping costs down. The pass makes a nice addition to our usually preference of boondocking, as it gives us a c full hookup place to come into clean up the rig, do laundry, refresh the tanks, etc for a cheap price. Wish they had more parks in Arizona and Nevada though, most are in California.

January 24, 2015 at 4:56 pm #8638We use PA quite frequently. It is especially good when looking for a place to stop for the night when going from point A to B. It does have stay limitations but if the parks are not full, we have been able to extend a few days. For the low yearly fee, it pays for itself very quickly.
We also have a full TT membership. This works for us as we are fulltimers and travel all over the US so we can usually find a park. Just be sure you are comparing apples to apples when looking because there so many and you might not end up with what you thought you had. Hugs, Di

February 17, 2015 at 8:55 am #9106Is there a large membership fee to join Thousand Trails up front and then the yearly zone pass fee? Like a timeshare condo? I see used memberships for sale on-line. I find TT very confusing! – Nancy

They have dozens of plans. The original company was sold, but the old plans are still honored and you see them being sold as they were transferable. Then there several newer plans out there as well. Some folks with fancier plans have accesss to all the USA TT parks and can stay 3 weeks in a park and move right to another. Some basically live in TT parks full time.
Then they started up the “Zone Camping Pass” and it is a no buy in yearly pass. That’s what we have no up front fee was required and it’s annual, but you have to cancel it a least a month before the annual contract end date or your auto billed another year.
Usually they sell a zone for about 500 bucks. Almost always the have promotions going on where you get a 2nd zone for free. In the spring they generally put it on sales as well. Seen it as low as $399.
It’s a two week max in a park then out of the system for 1 week until you can return to a TT park. Or you can jump park to park if you only stay 4 nights max. Also the max reservation lead time is 60 days, fancier plans can reserve up to 90 days or even 6 months ahead.
