I am a product reviewer. When we decide that we will be leaving for the winter and going to be away for at least a month+, where can I pick up packages ? Obviously while boondocking, UPS will not be coming to me!  Anyone with any answers?

When we’re in Quartzsite we use a place called Quiet Times on Main St. They accept packages from Amazon, Smartpost, UPS and Fed Ex. They charge $1.00 under 50 lbs, $2.50 over 50lbs.

The Post Office in Q is very busy usually with long lineups so we share a P.O. Box in Parker with friends. Any time anybody goes to Parker for groceries we check the mail for each other.

hi Dianne- I heard about the post office- is this the same one that has line ups that your waiting for hours at? or no? Also, have you been to Imperial Dam and what did you think of this area? We as well are wondering if you do the long term land thing, is it good for all over- in all areas of long term say in Arizona or California or only the one spot you go to? Do you pay the long term fee or the bi weekly fee of the $40? Are the wild donkeys in these areas approachable or no?

That is the post office. We haven’t been to Imperial Dam. Last year was the first time we paid $180.00 for the long term permit for BLM. Our Alaska trip the previous summer blew our budget so we decided to spend 3 months in Q. We also spent a few days at a couple of other BLM areas in Yuma and Blythe CA. Your permit is good for all BLM areas. You’ll have to decide if you’re going to be using BLM areas enough to warrant the long term permit. The only BLM we had burrows was in the Parker area. They came into our site but we weren’t about to pet them.

thank you for the reply. and explaining. We have a Yorkie that we would be taking along, so walking down any of the dirt roads in an area is safe with regards to burrows or coyotes approaching us? And I wouldn’t pet them- we travelled somewhere once before and saw them from our car at the time- but yes, a wild animal is a wild animal.

My hubby isnt yet retired. Another 4 years but we are hoping to have things all paid off within 2 years. But if he leaves early he loses benefits. But after working 36 years is so tired of it all. We still want to keep our trailer here though, so not liek we would sell everything and do this full time- I just need to get away from the long cold winter, which tends to become harder on me yearly.

Keep an eye on your Yorkie in coyote country.  They WILL attack any little dog/cat and take off with them.  Know a lady that lost hers this way and you can imagine how traumatic it was as it happened during their early morning walk.

This happened when she was actually walking with her dog on a leash though?? We always keep Jakey on a leash.

Do you know if one can put up anything around their RV so that nothing gets under the RV and to the pets that may be tied up on the other side? In these areas does one pretty much have to stand guard or sit outside with them and watch? Not sure how cautious I do need to be. Jakey does like his walks, but wouldnt want to be walking him and actually have something run at us.

YOur average coyote will not attack if your walking the dog on a leash cause you pose a threat to them. Now is it safe to say it will never happen? NO. You can never predict what a wild animal will do. Best bet is be outside with the dog at all times and if you or the dog sense any sort of danger turn around and head away

Have you dry camped in Imperial Dam area or Quartzside? what are they like there?

I have never been to imperial dam. As for Quartzsite. I have just passed by and purchased fuel before going into California or coming out. Fuel is cheaper in Az. From what I saw looks nice and very intersting. We plan to spend a few days in Jan.
