I guy pulled in here with a fifth wheel and I noticed that he had 4 panels on the roof and they were all pointed east in the morning. I thought to myself, that’s dumb. Then later in the day we go for a walk and they are pointed at the setting sun!?
A closer look and I see that all the panels are able to track the sun across the sky at a perfect angle. Wonder how much that costs? Too bad he just too off, I wanted to pick his brain.
LoveYourRV.comJanuary 26, 2015 at 7:41 pm #8720Ray,
I researched tracking panels for RV. There were a couple of folks working on a few years back, but never got out of prototype, and never became something you could buy.
There was also a guy from Canada that was working on automatic til in both directions about 2 years ago. Again I pinged him about two months, and he didn’t go beyond the prototype stage, and didn’t think he was going to pursue a marketable product either.

LoveYourRV.comJanuary 27, 2015 at 9:12 pm #8773Hi Ray & John, I have seen several systems like the one you saw Ray. I figured it was for-sure out of our crazy cash fund. this is one I was looking at…….. http://www.universal-solar-solutions.com/RV_Systems.html
I also found a few on the “U-tube” hour………. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-deeI2pSCY

January 29, 2015 at 7:10 pm #8782Eddie,
I emailed the company about there RV Solar Seekers. Here are some of the lights.
I was afraid your panels were that large. The RV Solar Seeker only has a 59″ mounting bar. With that in mind it would only be capable of holding 1 of your panels.
The cost of the RV Solar Seeker is $2,000.00. It comes with 40′ of wire and all the mounting hardware. We are currently on back order of the RV model.
January 29, 2015 at 9:47 pm #8783Hi John! There is no way I will pay out the nose for what is not a large benefit for the power we get in from following the sun with a tracker.
I have no idea how you could make up the difference in price verses the power you get back from tracking. I believe we still can figure witch way south is and also get up on the old 5er and tilt to match the elevation of the sun, that is just too much past our “poor old boy” crazy funds. I would put the money in better solar power controller or better battery’s for the battery bank.
But it is neat to look at and if we were filthy rich I would get my driver to turn the button on for me, but as it is I may see that in the next life! Ha!! Ha!!
Happy Trails!!!
January 30, 2015 at 6:34 am #8785That’s more than I paid for my entire system, including batteries! I guess this would be useful for someone who uses a lot of power and has a very large battery bank, otherwise, the power collected would just be wasted.
January 30, 2015 at 6:46 am #8786I agree the price is way out there, but if it was around $500.00 and would hold two of my panels I might have thought about.
