Found that it is helpful to put down an insect barrier around the trailer. We had a problem with fire ants.  Used a product called TERRO ant and bug killer.  Comes in a sprinkler bag.  There was a fire ant colony near our site.  I did talk to the office people and they said they would look after our issue.  After a couple of days I took care of the issue.  Used a product from Bayer – fire ant killer.  24 hours later no more fire ants.

As much as I dislike using pesticides I’d rather be rid of the fire ants and keep other creepy crawlies out of the trailer.

We found them in the southern states from around central Texas east, not much in dry desert areas to the west. They never seemed to come in the trailer but as Anne found out once stepping in a nest is not fun.

The ones I hated were Sugar Ants, as they would evade the whole trailer and setup shop! They didn’t bite but were all in the food.

    Good move Terry & Carol!!

I was bitten by one fire ant and cannot imagine what a whole nest would feel like!!!

Up north they can’t live due to the frigid winters!!  Thank goodness!!

    Ray,

We’re with you on the sugar ants!! Those little buggers get into the smallest of openings and mess up all sorts of foods.  Nancy found that Tupperware foils them though!  We had a bunch this past summer and nailed them with a recipe involving boric acid and sugar water that we found on pinterest. Worked well.  No more ants!!

I have used the boric acid and sugar water around the stick built house and it does seem to work well. ants are just a big pain. I have seen the firey red furry ants, don’t know if that is a “fire ant” or not but they sure looked menacing. Here in KS we just see the furry red ones sporadically.
